I recently opted for the A6 to cope with the demands of work and my ever growing family. After careful consideration the A6 was the choice for me. The vehicle is of a good size and has adequate levels of standard equipment to ensure that my 190 mile round trip to work each day is as comfortable as it can be.
The build quality is good and it drives decently with good pick up and holds the road well (except in snowy conditions when I would classify the ride and handling as very poor, where my previous rear wheel drive Lexus was better and at the time I thought that was poor). Generally though I am happy, I just wish I had opted for an all wheel drive version.
Firstly, I test drove a 06 BMW 525d est. and thought this is great wow, then I got straight into the 07 Audi 2.7 TDI and it was oh my god, it was 3 times better, the noise of the door when I closed it the way the dash was laid out, the toys, the diving position, I could go on and on the quality just oozed out (yes I did buy it there and then) it had full Audi history all the bits it should come with, warning triangle etc. I travel 100 mile round trip to work along the M6 and averaged 51 mpg but I usually get 46mpg, the power is great for a big car, I was looking for a 2.0 TDI but stumbled across this 2.7...glad I did. They are well worth the money, I got mine from Northern Prestige in Blackburn, if you live near or far away like Devon or Fife etc it is well worth the travel. I am so, so, pleased best car I have ever had, I think it will be an Audi again next time (3 or 4 years) Down side.....will have to get back with you on that one, when I find one..!!
I last wrote a review on the 18/01/09. So here is my update. Please do not buy the Audi A6. Like Daniel Pinders review, my car drinks more oil than diesel. FACT. It goes in July (Thank God) What a shame as the car looks better than my wife, but unfortunatly is not as reliable. Im now looking at the Volvo V70 estate, reading the reviews on the Volvo puts the Audi to shame. I dont think Audi will thank me for writing this, but please be warned.
I have the 2.7tdi multi on an 06 plate. Good things, the interior is beautifully built and trouble free, boot is big, has handy hooks for shopping bags, and an (extra cost) cargo net with tie downs - very handy. It’s very comfortable to drive long distances and the 2.7 and multitronic are just so smooth and effortless, you’re never short of power
Down side the radio occasionally has a fit when you start the car, and there is no sound, an air valve caused a warning light to come on, replaced under warranty after two trips to the dealer. Tyre noise can be a problem on some surfaces. I often feel like something is going to go wrong, although not much does. Noticed today that the coolant level was very low for 1st time in 2 1/2 years. Service costs are outrageous in my opinion, £400+ for a service is a rip off. Dealer service is getting better after some constructive feedback from me. I can get 40mpg plus on a decent motorway run, long term 40,000 mile mixed average is 38mpg .
Options are expensive, some should be standard, the SatNav price is a joke at £1,800, buy a TomTom. MMI drive very easy to use, but why is the clock set menu buried in the radio set up? This is a car I like to drive and be in, but I don't feel passionate about it like some other cars I have owned. Next time it might be a Honda for the peace of mind.
I've had 6 VWs now including this one and it is a mixed bag. In no particular order the economy is poor despite the FSI badging and in town never…
Why is there so much whining about the rear sets? It's small - it's called a "mini" (hint). It didn't get any smaller after you bought it, so deal…
