    My car

Having owned a Mercedes C-class before my first BMW, the BMW is definitely for the more driver enthusiast. The 330d creates a fantastic blend of sporty driving, similar build quality to the Mercedes but offers more reasonable fuel economy.

The 330 diesel engine is a delight, despite being a diesel is quieter than most but has unbelievable power, very torquey which doesn't seem to flitter away in the higher rev bands. The mercedes was a reasonably good handling car but this BMW is an amazing road handler, it gives you much more confidence in every bend.

In a word I recomend it...

    My car

I drive the 150bhp model on an 02 plate and, being a recent acquisition, it's still early days. I traded a 95 plate 318iS Coupe for this car and I am not disappointed. It's got good low-down grunt and excellent economy.

The controls on the steering wheel are great and easy to use, the climate control is a dream, the 6 CD player is easy to understand, as are the rest of the controls.

When I got this car it was already fitted with 17 inch wheels and I was at first a bit concerned, but it seemed for no reason. The slight tramlining is only felt occasionally, and it's worth the extra grip.

All I have added to date are Osram Silver Star H7 bulbs and they are worth every penny. The extra 50% more light is no wild claim. Would I change anything else? No not yet. But I will see if I can get used to the fast drop off in power at higher revs, its odd after driving a petrol engine for so long.

Perhaps a chip is in order when the warranty expires.

    My car

This is my fourth BMW and the most powerful to date. I love the car with the exception of the power steering, which is over assisted and extremely light. In fact in complete contrast to most cars the steering gets lighter then faster you go.

This I reported to BMW, who said it was within BMWs specification. Searching the internet I have found BMW clubs whose members have confirmed the same idiosyncracy. It only affects this model and for 2001Y build cars after which BMW changed the specification. In America BMW offered its customers a free retro fit. I would be most interested to hear from other readers who have experienced the same problem.

Other than this fault, this model BMW is an exceptional car.

    My car

Strong engine on motorways and for over-taking. Could do with more room in the rear but the new car will fix this. Overall, an excellent car to drive given that I do +40k per year.
