2004 330D Sport. With 204bhp and 410 Nm of torque this car has plenty of GO! but the sport model has suspention that does not work on most UK roads! It hops and skips as well as tramlining badly on its 18" wheels.
The equipment level is very good but the option list is too long and expensive leather trim should come with seat heating as standard, and lumbar support etc etc.
The dealer provided poor service - the waiting time after booking for service was too long.
Though I had bought the car from new when contacted one month ahead for MOT, I was told it would be 6 weeks. I felt the attitude was Got You, Shot You, Stuff You!
I was looking to buy an X5 but have bought Jeep Grand Cherokee, which is wonderful and I have saved about £7k.
I purchased the latest 320 sport diesel after taking six weeks to locate the car of my choice.
After spending five months with this car, which was supposed to be an early long-term retirement car, I finally have had enough and sold it back to BMW.
The ride over anything but a perfect road (try finding any of those in West Yorkshire) was unacceptable, very hard and uncompromising. The engine was free revving, quiet and smooth but it was not that economical, returning 38mpg-40mpg normal running.
The worst part is the steering, every motoring journalist talks about the steering being communicative. Well this car with 235 X 40 X 18 front 255 X 35 X 18 rear was an absolute pig. The car tramlines on anything but a perfect road (my wife refused to drive it). At 60mph on the motorway in rain it has a mind of its own when changing lanes and was impossible to drive with any degree of safety and accuracy.
The driving position being off centre was okay for local trips but caused severe back and hip ache on any journey above an hour or less in town with gear shifts. Not a quality interior, dark and dismal. Yes I had a demo drive and I had wanted the BMW 320 sport since it came out, fantastic to look at but a pain to own.
I have owned over 20 cars from most mainstream manufactures and I really craved for the Beamer, big disappointment. Now looking for something to replace it.
After 2 years and 40k miles the car is still a delight. Loads of torque, 150bhp and pretty quick to 60mph. I am still amazed at getting nearly 50mpg, which is the norm around town and comuting to work. It gets even better than this if I do any long stints on the motorways, up to around 53!
A quality German product which has provided trouble-free motoring. I am looking forward to trying out the new 3-series next year.

Owned for 1 year, as family runabout Pros good size, general build quality, powershift gearbox, good to drive, low costs Cons handling slighly…
Had this car for 90k from new. A 56 plate. In over 2,000,000 miles driven this one has broken down the most of any car I have had. DO NOT get a 2.0…
