    My car

I'm into my third month of ownership and all in all it's been pretty enjoyable.

The ride is definitely over firm but it does handle well- almost like a 3 Series with extra room and height. As I'm never likely to go "off road" this four-wheel drive is an ideal compromise.

Cabin quality etc is quality. I chose the cream leather option and against the black paintwork it looks great. I've got the business sat nav option but frankly its too much of a fiddle. Buy a Tom Tom instead! Wish I'd bought the electric seats package as well.

I've got the 3.0i petrol model and it really performs in terms of pull, acceleration and top speed. But it comes at a huge cost: petrol. In town where I do most of my driving I'm barely scraping 20mpg. On the motorway at 75mph with the cruise control you can manage 30mpg. The tank is not that big either so you need to fill up too often: on retrospect I wish I'd bought the 3.0 diesel.

Good car though: roomy and powerful yet not in an overbearing Range Rover way.

    My car

Overall, I've got used to the car rather than being totally happy. The car's 10 months old from new with 11000 miles.

3 main gripes: 1 It's certainly a hard ride. You feel every bump and tend to be thrown about. Amplified in the back where comfort is definitely not a feature.

2 Fuel economy does not match the stated economy figures in the sales broachure or spec for the car. All my driving has been motorway driving at no more then 70mph with cruise control on and the car averages only 34mpg which is some 30% below the extra urban figure quoted (at 47.9mpg)and some 13.5% below the combined figure quoted(at 39.2mpg). After having had the car economy checked by the BMW dealer twice and presenting my records for the below stated economy performance to BWW customer services - they simply do not want to know and have smothered what I think is a known problem with technical driving criteria and laboratory driving conditions! I'd rather them be honest and own up to the wrong or 'misprinted' performance figures in the sales broachure and spec.

3 - Selecting reverse is hard and stiff to obtain - certainly my wife finds this a difficulty.

On the good side, all the features and additional options- leather heated seats, turn in wing mirrors, storage pack etc are solid quality built and have not failed to date. The elevated driving position is good and visibility all round is good.

It looks good - like it better now - too early to say if I'd get another one just yet.

    My car

Some ups and downs with this x3. I came from a 2.0p A4 to this last year.when I got it at the time I loved it. it had just the right ride height for me. The petrol costs were high. I was getting approx 600km for a full tank, which to me was pretty poor. Loads of room with kids and there stuff. It came to this year and time to get it serviced. I decieced to change, I had a look around and decided to trdae to a tourer. The X3 had droped nearly 13,000Eur in the first year. Had to go home and have a brandy with the shock. Stay away from these if you dont want to have a heart attact when you go to trade in.

    My car

I have had this car for almost 2 years. This was MY 1st BMW, but i have driven numerous BMWS in the past. When i first recieved this car, i was 18 and i was completely overwhelmed as it was considered as a "mini x5" and regarded as feminine.

Good points - Running costs are good, my car is a diesel and a full tank is approximetly 490 miles and i am up and down the motorway 6 days a week and it lasts me a week and half. Inside, the car is VERY spacious! and the leather seats are very comfortable. It is a pratical family car, for a young girl like me, it is cute and fun and 4 friends can fit in it. The boot is very spacious, can fit plenty of shopping it in and for parents, two prams can fit in the back easily. Handling is brilliant, and it is very good around corners. Absolutely brilliant in rain and snow conditions.

Bad points - Cabin is not good quality, was very dissapointed for the amount of money it is worth! Car will only look nice in black, because of the black bumper on the exterior. Although tyres are run flats, i have replaced all four tyres at once, and they seem to get flat quite quickly! I have had the brakes changed once in 2 years. My friends say the car is loud, they can hear it from far. Too my surprise, when i drive over speed bumps it is not very firm.
