I have recently taken delivery of my 2nd X5 having been so pleased with the first one, it was a toss up between another X5 or the Range Rover Sport. However delivery time won through on the X5.
I was interested to read a comment on this site about the gear change, I too have found it irratic and when it has been back into BMW for inspection they said that there was no fault. Surprisingly I was told the car adapts to its drivers style of driving and memorises a driving pattern which would be the explanation for the irratic gear change !!!!!.
There is also a great deal of wind noise from the seals around the glass sunroof at all speeds. It is especially annoying on the motorway. BMW say this is how it is designed to be, and if you close the sliding liner then the noise reduces. Does this not make it pointless having a glass sunroof to let light in !!!!!.
I remain dissapointed and wonder if the RR Sport would not have been a better bet.
I bought my X5 eight months ago from new, with a high specification including satellite navigation, Bluetooth, a panoramic sun roof and more.
I'm very impressed with the build quality - it's the first BMW I have owned (my previous two cars were Audis). It has a great drive, and I love the engine. It's very quick for a big car, and I also like the auto box, and the comfortable, spacious interior. I would recommend it to anyone thinking of buying a 4X4.
I have recently had my head turned by the look of the Range Rover Sport, however I have decided to stick with the X5 as I think the Sport aspect of the Range Rover only exists in the supercharged version, which is too expensive.
I have recently put down a deposit on the new edition X5 due to be released in 2007.
THIS CAR IS THE ULTIMATE 4 x 4 IN TERMS OF PERFORMANCE , IMAGE AND PRACTICALITY. I STILL FIND IT TURNS HEADS ,ATTRACTS ADMIRING GLANCES AND COMPLIMENTARY COMMENTS. IT REALLY WARRANTS THE TERM SPORT UNLIKE MY PAL'S RANGE ROVER SPORT WHICH IS A GREAT LOOKING VEHICLE BUT VERY SLOW ON THE ACCELERATION FRONT.
MY KIDS LOVE THE COMMANDING ELEVATED VIEWS FROM THE BACK SEAT AND ALL THE SPACE IN THE REAR,AND THIS CAR REALLY LIVES UP TO THE MANUFACTURER'S CLAIMS- SUPER PERFORMANCE - GREAT RIDE ETC. IT REALLY IS THE ULTIMATE DRIVING MACHINE !!
A good car albeit more of a woman's vehicle (I have a Cayenne S which outstrips it for a man but cost me £16k more).
It needs a bit more poke and a bigger boot.
Rear boot window and boot closing poor as is the roller cover. Badly in need of new model less Americanised.
