Just a note to KIMBERLEY ATKINS, WEST YORKSHIRE, stephen HOLT, WEST YORKSHIRE and all the others who, like me, are very disappointed with the "lurching" Gearbox on the 3.0D Sport X5 with the 6 Speed ZF Auto Gearbox - It seems like we're not on our own, eh ?? - Despite what the dealers try to fob us off with. Check out www.thelurch.com - Look at the bottom of the front page and it describes the Gearbox problems exactly - Just click on the tab that says "ZF Gearbox Lurch" - There's even a copy of the BMW "TSB" - Technical Service Bulletin. And you're right - At well over £40,000, it's not acceptable - Or the "Ultimate Driving Machine" - Not that BMW will give a damn now that the new X5 is out, incidently advertised as having a 50% reduction in Auto Gearbox lag ! Spread the word - There are enough of us out there ...
I liked the reviews. I would surely drive one the day I win a lottery.
THIS REVIEW IS IN RESPONSE TO THE REVIEW STEPHEN HOLT OF WEST YORKSHIRE SENT IN JAN 07 AND ALL THE OTHER VICTIMS AT THE MERCY OF THE DEALER...........
I BOUGHT MY X5(SAME MODEL)IN DECEMBER AND I HAVE NOW BEEN WITHOUT IT FOR A MONTH AS I WOUDN'T ACCEPT THE UNSAFE PERFORMANCE. IN FACT I HAVENT HAD THE CAR IN MY POSSESION FOR ONE WHOLE MONTH SINCE I BOUGHT IT MID DEC 06.
TODAY I HAVE FORMALY REJECTED THE CAR (TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THE SALE OF GOODS ACT) AFTER FURTHER DEFECTS WERE IDENTIFIED. SORRY, BUT I SAVED 10 YEARS FOR THIS CAR AND HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT TROUBLE SINCE I GAVE VICTORIA BMW IN HARROGATE MY SAVINGS IN RETURN FOR THE ULTIMATE DREAM.
£37K DESERVES A CERTAIN DEGREE OF QUALITY; DON'T YOU THINK?

I LOVE THIS CAR!!
I've had it 18 months from new and with nearly 40K on the clock it's about to go in for its second service.
I do a lot of long journeys (300miles+ in a day) and have an iffy back so really appreciate the comfort. In my old Tourer I'd get out after a long run with my back practically in spasm but this is a joy. The road-holding is fab, I've taken the kids to scout camp in it (it does off-road really well) and the visibility is fabulous.
Plus, the kids love it - they think it's cool
It does guzzle a bit, but only what you'd expect from a 3litre. It doesn't slurp oil the way my old tourer did either!
