I own the 1.9 None Turbo Diesel It's an X reg (2000) and I've been exceptionally pleased with this car. It offers great economy even whilst towing a caravan Aside from the airbag light coming (clip under the seat gets loose) it's been brilliant! Cheap, realiable and comfortable - I'd recommend it!
I own a low-trim model, and would recommend people to avoid this. The suspension is floaty and feels unstable especially in the wet; some incidents of losing control have been very scary.
The interior is basic, the seats unsupportive and wash you around with the boat-like suspension.
Running costs are great, needing only regular and straightforward servicing. I might buy another one, but it would have a better specification.
Having owned several Fiats, Fords and Vauxhalls, I have just bought a Citroen Xsara and started to enjoy driving again. I think it is the mutt's nuts!
For value for money, it will be hard to find a car to offer so much for so little, air-con, electric windows, remote central locking, electric mirror, four airbags, ABS etc. However, build quality is not so good and I have had several minor but annoying faults. The worst is the indicator stalk that went wrong causing the car to indicate a left turn at random. Central locking not always opening when using the key as apposed to the remote (only one remote supplied). There is a fault in the air-bag seat sensor. But running costs are low, and the 1400cc engine is eager yet economical.
The brakes on this car are something special, they are so powerful and, combined with 195/55/15 tyres, handling is quite sporty and gives you confidence on the road.
For those who are after a bargain and want low running costs, I would rate this car as an excellent second buy.
