    My car

I recently bought the 500 for my wife and what a fantastic car it is. Do not dismiss it as just a city car because I have have racked up a few journeys around the M25 and on the motorway it is composed and very quiet for such a small car. The interior is just so funky and although you find the odd bit of hard plastic, you accept it as you know it's still a bargain. The boot is a good size so shopping trips are fine. 4 adults can sit in comfort, unlike the Mini. Small tip, resist the temptation to buy White. Nearly every 500 I have seen is in White. The dealer said 80% of his orders were in White. I agree it looks great in White, but in 3 years time the second hand market will be awash with them. We went for Cha Cha Azure Blue, with optional 16 inch alloys. It look perfect. I was considering a Mini and I concede it is a sharper drive, but when you look at the spec list and then compare the two its a no brainer! Why would anyone pay 4k more for a car that is a bad copy of an original great. The 500 takes the best bits of the original and brings them to the 21st century. I have only one gripe. The Blue&Me system is good, but like so many Bluetooth devices you have to have a certain phone to get the benefit of all it's functions, which is not make clear by the dealers. My wife can make and receive calls but her phonebook does not upload, which means unless she knows the number to dial, she has to stop the car and look at her phone.

    Despite this, BUY ONE!

    My car

Further to my review of my own 500 1.2 - forgot to mention i did actually drive this one first, was just as much fun but the road noise and the engine noise is more intrusive in the cabin with those bigger (16" on this occasion) alloys. 1.4 is buzzy but smooth but a little slow off the mark so anyone wanting a sportier feel might need to wait for the Abarth. It is alot of money as well for a small car... but still as lovable. Love mine.

    My car

Fun. This car is a hoot, yet relaxing to drive at the same time. 1.2 maybe could have had a bit more power but thats just nit-picking. It goes from A to B and looks a million dollars in the process both inside and out. Why cant more cars have this much caracter? Why do they all have to have boring black plastic interiors! Well done Fiat on bringing back a classic. Space inside is more generous than you might think too, for such a small looking car. Very quiet inside, good quality all-round like the Panda its based on. Very impressed. Cant look at that cheeky face without smiling. This car is probably as close to an original mini as you'll get nowadays without the old mini problems! Fantastic.

    My car

Today, I had a generously long test drive in the base model 500. This Fiat is on my list of possible new cars along with the Mazda 2, Corsa and Clio.

Not too sure about the overall running costs, but on the test drive I had the fuel gauge indicator didn't seem to move at all. As for tax, the 1.2 petrol is only £35 a year I'm told - so sounds promising.

As for the ride, could do with a little more power maybe - but generally very smooth and a nice slick gear change. A good driving position as well.

The car's main plus point for me though, is how it looks. This is a stunning car looks-wise, with chrome finishes everywhere and a host of options to personalise the vehicle.

So overall, a very good car from what I can gather. I'll write a more detailed review if I buy it - or, what might be more accurate to say - when I buy it!!
