    My car

I have owned this 2004 model for 4 years and have covered 81,000 km in that time. The car has been very reliable with only one software fault (for air bags) which has never recurred. Only on 2nd set of tyres; nothing else has had to be replaced. The car drives well on urban and country roads, is economical, has heaps of safety features, great interior room and looks good. This is a New Zealand car. I have it serviced regularly - perhaps the reason why it has never had any problems.

    My car

Where do you start with the Stilo????

I bought the car a little under 2 years ago, an 02 plate with 32000 miles, 3 door in Broom Yellow, with the electric sky roof. After nearly purchasing a 307 of the same year until reading reviews on the web slating it, tumbled accross the Stilo for a reasonable £3495. With no part-exchange to get rid of, i settled on £3300 for a great looking car.

First up was a recall letter 3 weeks into ownership, for new shock absorbers i think. I was made up with the car, cheap insurance, decent looks and decent perofrmance.

Then the gremlins started. It became hold-your-breath time everytime you started the car, which warning light would come on. i have had:

ASR Fault Brake Light Fault Airbag Failure - Switch Off Engine Fuel Sensor Failure

Also, the sunroof has NEVER closed first time, ever. It has always closed after turning the switch again, but im sure one day it will stubornly stay wide open.

Litle faults, not cost the earth, but now the exhaust is on the way out, and expensive at £350+ to replace, just had service and MOT at 56000 miles, and part-exchanged it against an 02 Vectra SEI DTI 2.2, getting £2500 trade in, which i was over the moon with.

Ill miss the car, its different, looks the part, but you begin to lose faith with the abundence of warning lights, buzzers and flashes, and one day something serious will occir, and the poor owner will ignore it.

To sum up, the Stilo is similar to the boy who cried wolf!

    My car

Drives well, quick acceleration though noisy as diesel engines tend to be. Eats tyres, which given the size of the wheels, are expensive to replace. Tracking always out, tyre wear on inner aspect and consistently pulls to the left.Servicing at Fiat is costly as are repairs. Side light dropped out recently as did front under bumper grille. Cigarette lighter failed. Word of warning - my cam belt snapped at 51'000 miles causing £2000 of repairs and three weeks in the garage - would not recommend this car, particularly as it is no longer in production.

    My car

Bought this 4 years ago when it was 12 months old with @10,000 miles on the clock. It was cheap and pretty well equipped and to buy a similar spec Peugeot 307 Or Ford Focus would have cost 1500 2000 more. Well I now know it was cheap for a reason. The driver's door handle fell off shortly after I got it, (replaced under warranty) the parcel shelf falls off at a whim, the electric windows stopped working as did the remote key entry. The aircon packed up and the blowers sound like Concorde on take off but don't actually emit any breeze. The nearside suspension spring snapped, the engine shows a fault, the car pulls to the left but the dealer says that's normal. Overall the most unreliable car I have owned and wish I had spent a bit more and got a decent make.
