My Dad bought this car many moons ago with 10k on the clock, since then it has seen many years, yet the body is still totally rust free, the paint gleams like new and it is my first car, I love every minute of driving it, the engine is smooth and revs beautifully (it's now coming up for 90k) it's well equipped for its age and I get 46MPG on a long run. What more could you ask for??? Oh and it's never once broke down or failed to complete a journey!
I have owned 6 ford escorts in 2 years and I have loved all.
I bought this ford escort 1.8 16v with juddering problems and short tax and mot. The miles were 185,000 with a full service history (serviced every 10,000)
Its lovly with the full leather and cd changer etc. fixed the juddering with a full service too
The fuel economy was about 35 mpg and the engine was responsive (115 bhp) and smooth. Look out for rust on the rear arches. Some suffer from chassis rail corrosion and some suffer from wheel arch corrosion.
Idle control valves can be a problem (up and down idle) which can either be cleaned by carb cleaner or replaced. (either remove inlet manifold from top or change from the bottom.
Petrols suffer with idle problems,(smaller petrol engines suffer with tappet noise) and diesels on pre 96 models suffer with fuel pump bearing faliure (puff of smoke every 2 seconds)
The engine to go for is the 1.6 zetec with a full history. Cambelt changes should be every 60,000 miles. Zetec top ends suffer with oil starvation because insufficiant oil changes or oil type. This is cause by thin jets clogging up and not spraying much. Flush and Replace oil and filter with 5w/30 oil (semi synthetic) and do not use any oil thickening treatment substances at all.
Diesel engines need cambelt replacments every 35,000 miles and oil changes every 5000 miles. these engines are capable of 600,000 miles if looked after
Overall a really good car and you learn alot from these
I have owned this car for 11 years, driving 91000 miles and the engine is still as smooth and quite as when it was new, the car has never broken down or needed any garage work except the standard servicing, new tyres etc. My Si came fully loaded with every available extra when new, i have driven alot of other cars and found only the ford puma handled better.
absolutely brilliant in every single way, it will pull in every gear, does 0-60 in about 4.8 seconds and will reach a top speed of about 187mph, this is all after i modded it by the way, but yeh, t.v's in the seats, boom box in the boot, neon lights underneath, some 22inch alloy spinners and a heffer of a spoiler, the best thing since browwn bread, quality car.
My late 2010 1.6 CRDI has covered 43,000 miles in just over 18 months. The good. So far the car seems totally reliable. The interior still looks…
Bought the car second hand with 40K and full service history. Put on another 20K in last 6 months with not a hiccup. It's quick enough and…
