Let’s start off by saying that this car is great,
It’s my 2nd car (1st car was an mk3 1.4 golf) and I couldn't be more pleased with it.
Throw this car into a corner on any country road and you will be surprised with the out come, a speeding thrash through any apex (or curb) will leave you wanting more, under steer can prove a problem with over aggressive driving but altogether buttock clenching grip, the 0 to 60 isn't to impressive but from 30 to 70 is more than enough torque to pull you from a regular Sunday drive to overtaking some pensioner attending a tea and biscuit lunch at the local garden centre, the top end isn't great either at about 115mph its slower than the st but the price of filling up the small 9 gallon tank (430 mile range) and the £35 road tax more than makes up for it.
Style wise, all that's different between the diesel zetec s and the st is that the st has wheels 1 inch bigger and an exhaust poking out of the rear bumper other than that there is little difference.
Buy one and you will not regret it.
I've had my ST since November 2006 and its great fun to drive and looks stunning. It may not be the quickest straight line car in its class, but it more than makes up for it in the corners. The car just begs to be thrown into corner after corner thanks to its tweaked suspension. Fuel economy varies on how much you put your foot down. If you're going around town conservatively you could probably get 300 miles out of a full tank. Take the car on the motorway or let your curiosity get the better of you, and you'll see that figure drop to around 260 miles.
But there is a downside to all that fun. If you want to go on long journeys on the motorway (over 2 hours) at speed, the noise in the cabin can give you a little bit of a headache. This is the only let down of the car, and in my opinion can be rectified with the addition of a 6th gear, which sadly ford doesn't offer on this car.
Great car and Very Fun to drive. The car does seem to lack major performance, However does make up for this on the B Roads, were the car shines. Steering is sharp and the engine pulls the car very quickly when needed. My car doesnt seem to suffer from Flat spots either which is good. Fuel wise 27mpg is approx correct for what you will recieve, and 250-280 Miles per tank. V power helps with the accelerating i feel. Overall very good car and very pleased with it. Ford now off power upgrades which are VERY good and worth the extra money i feel.
I have owned my fiesta for about a year now and covered no less than 45,000 miles in communting. This car is truly outstanding.
Positive's. The 1.25 engine: good amount of torque and only 5 less horses than the 1.4 make it great for on the motorway and for nipping round town. It will quite happily cruise at high speeds then when you put your foot down it keeps on going.
As soon as I got into this car after test driving every other car in its class I new I was on the money. of course the engine is good for what it is but its the suspension and handling which makes this car special. The Fiesta Suspension is great, the low roof means low yaw rate and its got reponsive steering. Best part is I'm 6"5' and I can happily drive this car over 4 hours every day.
Negatives: Thermostat leaks, Brakes fail (Oh yes), Clutch slips completely out of gear, Refinement is poor, front seats have broken, Anti locking mechanism has failed and the front left window squeaks.
It doesn't come with so much standard kit either.
Besides all that it keeps going and going. it looks great its spacious and its got very low running costs.
