    My car

I bought a panther black econetic 1.6 tdci from Lawtons of Tadcatser about three weeks ago now. I was surprised no-one else had written a review of the econetic given they have been out for quite a while now. I was rather suspicious about the fuel consumption figures, and good fuel economy was the main reason for me choosing this car. I drive over 20,000 miles a yr and wanted a used car with excellent mpg. Friends of mine own the 07 or 08 plate Fiesta 1.6 diesels and get about 50-55 mpg, 10-15 mpg lower than the government figures. Therefore I was hoping to get around 65mpg average, 12 mpg lower than the stated figures and I haven't been disappointed !! I drive on 60 mph and 70 mph roads, and sticking to the limits get 65-68 mpg. As for the car itself I must agree with most of the other reviewers, the car is very comfortable and spacious making it a good all round buy. The only drawbacks would be that some of the interior plastic is rather easy to scuff and the back seats don't fold down flat. Some of the usual optional extras are not available with the econetic model (eg alloys) but many of the widely used ones are (voice control system, heated windscreen, bluetooth etc). If you don't have the bluetooth/voice control system you don't get a trip computer, which is good to keep track of your mpg etc. Used prices are said to be remaining high so should also attract a good resale value. Try to get a Ford Direct model which comes with a 2 yr unlimited mileage warranty.

    My car

We have had our Fiesta econetic for a year now and it remains excellent. This is the first diesel we've had and we are not disappointed. The 1.6 econetic engine gives a better drive than my 2 litre petrol C Max. The engine is silent, noise was my biggest concern for a diesel (having driven a rather noisy BMW 3 series, and the ridiculously noisy VW Golf), the Fiesta is great. I am 6' tall and there is room for me, wife and two 6' sons. It also looks good in Squeeze colour (the colour Clarkson drove on top gear). Our last small car was a 2005 Honda Jazz, which was great, but the Fiesta murders it, it really is way better. It is superbly economic, zero rated for road tax and hardly uses diesel. We have had it on long motorway jaunts and it is excellent, with plenty of power, it remains quiet, even over 70, the road holding is excellent. The car is mainly used for inner city commuting, here too it is great, comfortable and quiet and a hoot load fun to drive. Banish any doubt from your mind if you are thinking of getting an econetic, you won't be disappointed. We lease ours from www.vehicleconsulting.com, really excellent customer service
