    My car

Every review i read says to stay away from the 1.4 CL model, due to my age (18) and being male meant | had to keep my engine small. I got the 1.4 V reg for £1900 and its being fantastic. Okay, its underpowered when overtaking but just drop it into 3rd gear and it flys. I get about 40-43mpg out of it and pay £125 tax.

Had a few problems with it, the ignition coil went and cost me £90 to get replaced. For its MOT it also needed a new rear spring and front ball joint total cost, £200. Not stupid money to be honest, plus its 9 years old with 80k miles.

Body work seems to be okay, bit of rust under the rear window which is sorted with kurarust, also the bottom of my rear door had a hint of rust but sorted that too. All in all, very solid car, it handles really well, i upgraded the wheels from standard CL steel rims to some zetec alloys which hug the road.

All in all, if your a 17-21 year old lad who wants cheap insurance and running costs get the 1.4. Im 20 and the insurance for me is £600.

    My car

Owned from new since 2001, 99000 miles on the clock now. Car has rarely missed a beat, pretty well all original apart from tyres, brakes and timing belt. Not even replaced a bulb!! Not a squeak or rattle in the cabin. My first Ford for over 20 years - I can truthfully say it has been a very happy experience. My only complaint has nothing to do directly with the car, but being registered in March 2001 I'm going to be seriously hit by the new VED bandings. Now how can I make the car 3 weeks older......

    My car

I've only owned this car for 2 months, so maybe a little early for a review, but up to now I have found this car excellent. Its fast, comfy, and handles brilliantly. However, although reliability seems to be good now, I did have a few problems to start with. Firstly, not long after picking the car up (about 10 miles) I started hearing and feeling a loud knocking noise when going around bends, so I had to take it back the following morning and leave it over the weekend (very frustrating). That turned out to be an anti-roll bar problem. Then I had a problem with the abs kicking in with the slightest touch of the brakes, which was a faulty abs sensor, and the air con wasn't working, which turned out to be a leaky seal. Finally, the handbrake wasn't holding on the slightest inclines and handbrake cable had to be changed (not sure how it got through the MoT). All this was in the first couple of weeks, and all was fixed with no hassle under the 2 year warranty I got with the car. Since then I've had nothing but beautiful driving. In fact, its such a nice drive, I didn't notice I was doing 100mph at one point today on a motorway, it was so smooth and quiet, so keep an eye on the speedo!

    My car

I swapped a 2006 new shape 1.6 petrol Focus for this old shape 1.8 TDCi because the petrol was only giving me 30MPG! (avoid the 1.6 100bhp petrol engine!!) I drive a good mix of roads, and dont drive with a style aimed at fuel saving, but this engine always returns at least 48 MPG, and more if I take it easy. The car is comfortable and spacious, and very fun to drive on B-raods, with plenty power for overtaking from the 113bhp engine. The interior styling is looking a bit dated now but works well. Quick clear front windscreen is excellent and air con beautifully cool. The engine takes some getting used to, as it doesnt like going too slow in 2nd gear - i.e. stalls. But its great on the motorways accelerating from 50-80 in no time. Boot is a little small and the alloys are too wee! and its such a common car in the UK, but overall excellent.
