I know the Fusion looks like an OAP's car and i am a little embarrased about owning one but i just do not agree with the reviews.

The fusion is far cheaper than a fiesta (if bought second hand) has far more space including boot room....and i need that boot space. It handles motorway driving easily, (1.4 engine) is comfortable to drive and drives perfectly well around town and country roads.

If you want space in a small car, good value and a good quality drive and you dont mind its looks then it is an excellent car.

Now the downsides might be running costs. Small problems have occurred such as coolant pipe splitting, distributor failing, car seat adjustment bar snapping. But it has done 85K of hard driving and all the important parts seem strong.

Read so many negative reviews, wasnt too sure about buying a Ford Fusion, but I needeed a small economical estate car,and had a test drive in the 1.4 tdci, which I found to be noisy and slow. Then tried the 1.6tdci,and what a difference!Fast, quiet, and so much better in all respects,I decided to buy one,and found a pre-registered 2010 1.6tdci with just 16 miles on the clock. On the 200 mile drive back home, the computer was showing 60.5 mpg at around 60-65 mph!Have now got almost 800 miles on the clock, mainly town driving, and it is averaging 56.5 mpg, which goes up to over 60mpg on the motorway.I think this is just fantastic, and am confident that with a few thousand miles more on the clock, will get near to 70mpg!I cannot really understand the negative reviews,it is a very roomy car, fantastic economy,a great view of the road, and is quiet.Yes it does lean a bit when cornering, but not too bad, just ease off the gas a bit,and its ok.If it is a problem for anyone, surely they should have found that out when they test drove the car,and not bought it! The only real niggle for me,is the need to use the key to open the boot, but I am getting used to that now.All in all, very satisfied with it so far,id just advise anyone thinking of getting one,opt for the 1.6tdci and ignore the smaller engined car

At 6’4” like head room and firm but comfortable upright seats but had to make sure car did NOT come with optional radio control stalk on steering column which would foul knees. Dashboard is uncomplicated and easy to use but was replaced in first few months on warranty due to a minor display fault. Economical and small but practical: nice fold down driver’s arm rest, fold flat front seat good for 5’ long keyboard! Irritations: rear view mirror at eye height so obscures road view, relatively high level of engine noise in cabin around town for a new car, brakes not particularly powerful (compared to my old citroen xantia), no cruise control available. Around town about 45-50mpg, 60mpg at constant 65mph, 67mpg at constant 60mph. Pulls very well from moderate speeds. Like unique outside styling – I don’t like the replacement Ford B-max coming soon. Optional reversing sensors useful – stopped me going into an undetected concrete bollard! My step-Dad with bad hip likes the high seats. Also tested Kia Soul (close second), Nissan Note and Skoda Yeti.

    My car

Tried this car in a Test Drive only 30min drive but was an eye opener, it handles really well and the turning circle is amazing here in West Cornwall it has plenty of guts to go up the hills and around our twisty b roads seems completely at home. DID NOT try it at speed on any dual carriagway so cannot judge, maybe next test drive will try it. Cannot understand review of Calum Strang here as it has plenty of power even for a 1.4 a bit stiff ride but thats probably as its a higher vehicle so they keep the suspension stiffer reversed up a farm lane to turn around and it was a doddle as good view from the driving height noticed the bonnet catch was plastic and read somewhere that they break easily so would need to watch that, the price for this 2007 1.4 zetec was £6995 and we think thats too much, I am 6ft plus and have loads of leg room ANYWHERE in the car, my wife is 5ft 3 and was at ease driving it. the back seats are a bit hard backed and very "upright" so for kids they are a bit unforgiving. Good boot space for buggies, luggage, car boot stuff, and a trip to the recycle center etc etc, practical car! might think on getting on at the right price.

Interior for Fusion was good a bit thin plastic here and there but overall good, parcel shelf was a bit flimsy (does anyone really use them?). Tried a Peugeot 207sw same price and year and that was gutless engine and cheap interior with useless dials that are hard to read ( white dial black lettering)
