An excellent all-rounder, the steering and road-holding are superb.
The 2.0 TDCI (130bhp) has plenty of vigor and returns very good fuel economy.
The space in the Mondeo is huge and practical, particularly if you lower the seat. The dash is easy to read and looks really smart when using the lights.
However, my father in law (who also has a Mondeo) and I have experienced a few minor problems with the electronic switches that undo the boot/tailgate and also interference with the radio.
On the whole, it's an excellent car if bought nearly new (I bought mine at six months old for £10,500).
I like the car. It drives well around town as well as on the motorway. It's much better than the Vectras I have driven.
The boot is huge. I never have to think about whether something will fit in it - it will. On the downside, I took delivery of this car in December 2003 and the radio didn't work properly. It is now June 2005 and it is still suffering from the same interference as the day I got it, making it useless. (This is the top-of-the-range six-disc CD player.)
I have been in touch with Ford on a number of occassions and have had a replacement unit but still nothing has worked. I'm so fed up with the poor service from Ford over this matter that I don't think I will get another Ford ever again.
I bought my Mondeo two years ago and it was great. The drive, the equipment and it copes wonderfully with two young children in the back. I'd never owned a diesel before and the 2.0 TDCI (128bhp) felt much better than my previous 2.0 petrol.
Last year though it was broken into and the six-CD player removed. In the last five months I have had it broken into three times and many other Mondeo owners in my area have suffered a similar fate.
I'm sorry to say the security isn't very good. I think the car is great, practical and up until now affordable but I will be replacing it for something else; but I will miss that heated front windscreen on cold frosty mornings.
I own Ghia X CDTi - 2002 model. It's the best car I've ever had for reliabilty, fuel efficiency and towing.
I'm looking to change this year. Can any other meet this for price and spec? Please let me know.

I've had 6 VWs now including this one and it is a mixed bag. In no particular order the economy is poor despite the FSI badging and in town never…
Why is there so much whining about the rear sets? It's small - it's called a "mini" (hint). It didn't get any smaller after you bought it, so deal…
