It`s a 95 lowmiler with one and only owner (an old judge!) until 2004 when I by a occasion popped into a Forddealer on the way home frome a unclosed deal with a Volvodealer. Well the fordsalesman was honest, the mondeo mk1 is in my mind better looking than the bulkier mk2 with those "chinese eyes" and i know from my own experince that the leggspace in front is wider in the earlier model, the interior is of good softtouch materials and bolsterd richtly with nice thick textile and the dashboard is low and wide with a slightly bowshape that gives it a floating appearens like those in US made cars and it`s not a occasion (GM). I love the smoothness of the 1.8 engine, it have never faled and holds a very good fule economy. There are no rust to talkabout and I´ve noticed that here in Sweden the mk1:s are generaly in good condition dispate that we are pooring tons of salt on the roads during the wintertime, that suprised me because escorts usualy owns a short life here. Minuses are the bumpers..chrispy as eggshells, so do look out for cracks and then the brakes, the discs has a habbit to bend and therefore it`s important to tighten the wheelnuts even that`s also the easyfix for a pulsing pedal. As today you find in the Mondeo a refined car for less money with no cuts in quality or comfort.
Bought a 99V back in 2002 with 35000m. Cheap to buy, run and service. However, the mpg of the V6 was about 28mpg. If you can afford the petrol the V6 is a sweet engine and cruises effortlessly - beautiful! Only problem I had was having to fix the oil cooler. Other than that I had many miles of great pleasure and so did my dog in the enormous boot. Shame nobody at ford decided to put any thought into the design of the back end of the car!
bought the car with 100,000 on the clock 3 years old , with FSH, that was in 2000. changed the original clutch at 120,000 the only other problem i had was a coil spring snapped, oh yeah I had to buy a new battery. very little services required , fuel consumption good on long runs, but not to clever around town. its now got 150,000 on the clock and the engine is as smooth as ever
This is a good car, with some overall problems.
