I bought the Mondeo at auction for £3600 with 53000 on the clock and overall I am happy with the car. Beind on a 52 plate the miles were good. The only bad point is on every lomg journey the engine cuts out and I need to pull over and restart the car. I am in the RAF and use the car every Friday afternoon to drive 320 miles home and after five hours behind the wheel I feel fine. I can get 650 miles from a tank of diesel doing around 75 mph on the A1. If you are after a cheep car to do loads of miles get one.
Bought it on a whim in October 2005. It was a last minute bid on e-bay and cost £2250 with 105000 miles on the clock, a dealer history and 6 months tax and MOT. As is to be expected with a cheap car it came with a few faults, air bag light flashing, low speed mis-fire and the a/c not working. A coil cured the mis-fire and we've not bothered with the other problems. I the near 3 years we've had it I've replaced the washer pump, rear discs and pads and a couple of tyres. The car always starts first time, drives well, is quiet and comfortable and gives a good balance of performance and economy. MOT's have been easy as it's not failed one a basic service is a simple DIY job. I've just bought the bits needed to fix the a/c (£55 on e-bay) and the air bag fault is something to do with the passenger seat so I'll pull it to bits ( any bright ideas????..firstname.lastname@example.org). The cars only downside is the cost of road tax from next year, apart from that you can't fault it. It looks good in steel blue, still looks quite modern and has provided three years of reliable motoring. With only £100 worth of parts used and £50 of DIY servicing I'm not complaining. The car is probably worth £1500 now so even with the a/c bits replaced the cost over 3 years is less than a pound a day!!! Can motoring get any cheaper?????????

The car has been very good and has given no problems so far. Any work needed has been carried out already in the first three years.
Economy is good day-to-day, although I feel around town it is not much better than the petrol equivalent. The only time I feel it has excelled is on long journeys. I know driving to Lincolnshire I would have to fill my old petrol car up twice, however I managed to drive there and back on one tank, which was good news.
Running cost are sensible for a big car, and the extras on the car are all welcome. Build quality is good and has long moved on from the days of the Sierra - in some areas, it's as good as VW, although just a couple of steps behind, but closing very quickly.
The car is no slouch and moves swiftly once going, so I find myself driving it like a lorry driver sometimes, by trying to keep it moving so I don't lose momentum.
The 130bhp is very useful and, while it is no BMW 330i, it surprises a lot of people. When you are caught up the "rep" grand prix on the motorway, Vectra drivers have to move over and are very unhappy about it.
Of course, you can only join in the "rep" grand prix if you have a Vectra, Mondeo, Accord, Avensis, 407, or 318i BMW (with badge removed and M3 badge stuck on instead).
Handling is good for a big car and always feels stable and secure at speed.
Bought the 2.2TDCi ST last September, it was 11 months old with 14K miles. I tried the BMW 320DSE Touring and also the Jaguar Estate 2.2Diesel. Frankly the Ford was much better value and I haven't regretted my choice. It is more comfortable, has much more equipment and drives beautifully with loads of grunt. Despite the amount of room it doesn't feel like a really big car but there is loads of space for passengers and my German Shepherd. Fuel economy is terrific despite the amount of power at your disposal and even driving for fun I still match the manufacture's figures.Have had to replace the front tyres and they are not cheap. I had driven the 130 TDCi which impressed me but this is definitely the one to have.
