I am a company car driver and had one of these for 3 years (07-10) and 40k miles.I had a choice of a passat,Mondeo or a Renault Laguna.I personally found it a big, comfortable cruiser of a car.It had the faults mentioned here ,such as water dripping into the boot etc but these were inconviences rather than faults. I didn't feel the build quality was as good as a passat, and ,you can see the areas where Ford has cut costs, such as the glovebox lid and the footwell lights to name but two.The car would also creak like an old wooden ship if you were driving down off a kerb. I had a major fault with my mondeo about six months after delivery where it developed the automotive equivalent of a stroke. Nothing on the left hand side of the car would work, doors, windows, mirrors etc.The car was off the road for 10 days while this was sorted. It turned out to be a fault in the wiring loom. The Ford dealer I used was just ok.Not very helpful when i needed a courtesy car when, my car was off the road, but they improved with time. I liked the car a lot as the positives far outweighed the negatives. It is the type of car that can cruise at 70 all day, nice interior ,good stereo and a very good climate control system. The company I worked for went down the eco route when the car was to be replaced. I now drive a volvo v50 1.6 diesel. It barely has enough power to pull me out of bed. I miss my mondeo.
owned for 20months now and find it possibly best ford to date.Superb road holding, very roomy interior, powerful motorway cruiser, very supple on B roads. On long journies can easily acheive 50 plus mpg.Around doors 40mpg.Niggles??...had parking sensors fitted front and rear due to size, some rear view blindspots (hatchback) but what annoys me most is getting a "shower"from rear hatch when opening after heavy rain which also drips into luggage compartment. As a private motorist I bought the mondeo pre-registered with only 4 miles on clock saving £7000plus on rrp but I would doubt if I would have paid £20,000 for a car with DIRE residuals that it has,so bottom line is .....buy it right ,but don`t keep it too long, just enjoy best family car by far!!!!
I have owned this 2.0 TDCi Zetec for 7 months now and overall I am very impressed.
Positives Handing is good for a large family estate, engine has enough guts to make good progress and the economy if great. As a motorway cruiser I cannot fault it - 55mpg+ at 70 mph, quiet and comfortable. Zetec has all the important toys that I want (full electric windows, cruise and climate controls, good stereo)
Negatives Around town fuel comsumption drops below 30 mpg and it feels huge in car parks and when parking. If you stand in the wrong place when you lift the tailgate you get soaked - not great design!!
Overall if you need a big family car, but still want to enjoy driving then I would strongly recommend this new Mondeo.
company car since march 08. currently at dealer and has been back six times !!! engine malfunction message keeps recurring and ford (wolverhampton) cannot seem to fix. great car to drive but a little on the large size, also fuel economy disappointing, average 33mpg but all very urban (20 mph). nice cabin but build quality not great - or have i been spoilt by volkswagen? visibility somewhat restricted when turning corners and yes the boot will disperse water back into the bootspace when opened.

Had this car for 90k from new. A 56 plate. In over 2,000,000 miles driven this one has broken down the most of any car I have had. DO NOT get a 2.0…
