I have this car since 2007 and have done 129.000 kilometers . The engine is a lot more powerful than expected and it pulls the S-max quite nicely. The space is beyond what I have ever seen in a car that can do 210 km/h,especially in the back. The third row of seats are only for small children and back there is quite cosy, but in a bad way. With the third row of seats up there is little room for luggage but u can still manage to fit two medium sized bags. With the 320nm of torque the S-max eats trough tires like they were made from butter. If you like me have a more heavy right foot be prepared to see whole chunks of rubber missing from your front tires. There is some turbo lag but you wont notice it. The handling is surprising for a MPV but I`m not with the guys on the magazines saying the handling is unbelievable. The back hangs out on almost every corner and the Ford leans a lot . I also own a 2002 Toyota Yaris Tsport and the little yaris outperforms the legendary Ford handling by (________________________________________________________________________________)-this much . One proof is that children never have gotten sick in the yaris whereas with the S-max the amount of sick coming from the mouths of the youngsters is record braking. The interior is made really shabby .Almost all of the vents are broken. All in all the S-max is not a really reliable car apart from the engine and the handling might be better than in other MPVs but its worse than everything everything else.
This is the worst car I have ever owned. The car has an intermittent start problem that has led to the car being in the garage for 1 1/2 months for the 15 months I have owned it and it is still not fixed! Water leaks into the foot well from the air-conditioning pump, the centre arm console regularly disintegrates into pieces, the lights fell out, the drivers seat had to be replaced, faulty electronics mean that the alarm sounder only works sometimes, trim quality poor (rattles and bits fall off), paint is peeling off the front bumper, and so on - list too long to care to mention. Fuel economy poor at an average of 38.0mpg over 44K miles. On top of this the customer service at Ford is awful and there is still no sign of the start problem being fixed. This is the only Ford that I have ever owned and it will be the last.
Well the first 1000 miles were ok then the engine malfunction light started to appear. They have replaced 3 core plugs a wiring connection and it is now on 3rd turbo. At the 5th time of asking the dealer basically said they can not solve the problem and ford are working on it at present. Not very happy and while my wife and children were driving up a hill the problem occurred, the car lost power and a car tried to overtake which nearly resulted in a head on collision. My wife refused to drive the car on safety grounds and Ford have agreed to replace the car after a few letters and angry confrontation with the manager. Who we have found to be a lier and not helpfull until the letters were sent to his M.D. They do admit that there is a problem with the tdc1 engine and have blamed US as the reason for the fault. It is not very good for short journeys e.g the school run which is a load of rubbish and if true they should tell every customer this before they buy the car. We have been told to choose another car within the range but are not allowed the engine we wanted at purchase because of the above mentioned. The manager has told bare faced lies to us and the whole affair has resulted in my wife starting maternity leave earlier than she wanted because of the stress. There is a lot more to the info written above regarding dealing with Ford. It has been a nightmare and i will NEVER buy a Ford again and will NEVER forgive ford for the risk my family have been subjected to.
I have had this car 5 months now and overall am a little disappointed.I have the 2 litre diesel and this is great to drive , loads of overtaking humph and a real pleasure on any type of journey. The only problem is that there are a lot of little things that spoil the overall enjoyment of owning this car. However i drive it, i can not get over 36mpg, which is rubbish, i live on a little hill and the handbrake will not hold the car. I have to put it in gear and a brick behind the back wheel. I have a bt of intermittent spluttering from the engine, it just seems to misfire now and then. The storage places are not very good, i have two kids and there is no where to put there drinks without them spilling and there are not enough cup holders in thewhole car. Probably silly things but important with kids.
I am now looking at another car and think i will probably go for the Touran instead.
This has been an excellent family car for us over…
We bought a second hand 02 plate Picasso about 3…
