We have owned an '05 model from new and over 50,000 miles the car has been almost 100% reliable. The only faults (both repaired under warranty) were a defective engine mounting and a strange noise from the rear differential which was cured by replacing the oil. We bought the car because it is one of a very small number of cars that will (just about) fit three child seats across the back without resorting to an MPV. The legroom is excellent and the seats are fairly comfortable for long journeys which make for a good family car in combination with the spacious boot. Noise levels are generally fairly low except when the engine is at high revs (a 6th gear would help on the motorway). On the road the CRV drives quite well but it seems that grip at the front wheels is a problem. This means that the car can really struggle for traction in the wet which makes hill starts quite difficult (plenty of wheelspin). Wet roundabouts require care too as the car will understeer off very easily. It seems that the 4-wheel drive system is very 'part-time' and doesn't really help on wet roads. In contrast the car seems to cope very well with snow. Running costs are reasonable although fast motorway driving can push the fuel consumption down to 26mpg compared with an average of 30mpg. In summary a very reliable, spacious family car but don't expect a sporty drive!
Ive had my 02 plate car for about two years. It has done 75,000 miles. I've never needed to changes its brakes or tyres.
The only problem was a squeaking clutch, which needed the whole unit replacing under warranty.
I probably average just over 30mpg, mostly on dual-carriageways. I think it's great and its reliability has been excellent.
I've only ever had to drive in snow once and didn't have a problem.
Purchased a 55 plate 12 months ago. Wanted a spacious yet economical family motor. No doubt it has the space with excellent legroom and boot space. The black leather interior and lots of plastic make it a dream to keep clean and this outweighs the dated appearance of the console and the suggestion the interior has too much plastic. Ths diesel engine provides the right amount of umph to satisfy a driver that likes to get from AtoB at a reasonable and sensible pace. Very pleased that we are achieving between 45 and 50mpg. The kids have great visibility and with this car has gone their car sickness problems. And..Yes, we have used the picnic table
Whether it is the relaxed driving postion with great visibility or just fondness of the vehicle that takes our family out on many trips without a whimper of ever letting us down, I find myself drawn to it on the drive in preference to my Lexus and indeed so much so I will swap the Lexus for the new shape CRV
Had the crv for 2mths now excellent drive only downside mine is the automatic and drinks petrol like there's no tomorrow, struggling to get 25mpg and thats sensible driving. If you put the foot down the gauge goes down just as fast.Wish I had gone for the diesel as is an exceptional motor one of the best I've had.
