update! had 2.2 ctdi for three months and impressed. after having th egr valve replaced and now the rear diff modification performed im getting 44 mpg regularly. if you want to buy one of these make sure this work has been done on the car as it seems to make a difference! would recommend this car, especially if you dont plan too much driving of the beaten track!
We bought this CR-V diesel 2.2 estate i-CDTi Sport from Machargs on the 27th April 2007. It had only a little fuel in it, so we filled up at a supermarket on the way home to Dunoon.
At exactly 194 miles it lost power and stopped, but we managed to freewheel into our drive. It was contaminated fuel, Machargs said, so the tank was emptied, and refulled with eight gallons by Phoenix Honda, next door to Machargs. Great!
Guess what? 194 miles later, the vehicle stopped again, with the same symptom. Honda Phoenix cleaned out tank, took it back to refill it at the supermarket, but at a different pump. 194 miles later, same problem. The car was sent to Honda Phoenix, and the tank was cleaned again(contaminated fuel?).
I asked Phoenix to fill up vehicle at their garage, we would pay the extra, and would not have to go to the supermarket on the way home. 91.8 miles later it went again, so we went back to Honda. Does anyone think there is a fuel contamination fault?
Is it a policy at Machargs that if a vehicle has contaminated fuel, they are no longer responsible for repair. We had been told by the aftersales person that once you drive a vehicle away from their forecourt, it was then the owner's responsibility, not theirs.
This vehicle is still under Honda Warranty. Have you any ideas, please?
Appreceate the previous reviews. I still like the machine bought from a main dealer BUT it has had regular warning lights. The first related to the air bag sensor which had misteriously been disconnected and the connectors damaged. Cost of new wiring loom +£1000.
Next the throttle sensor went giving rough running. This was changed at my expense but a few days later the same warning light and this time Honda say the throttle body needs replacing Cost £1000 !!
The car is over 4 years old and although Honda say this is faulty design which they are aware of they will only contribute £200 towards the cost.
The car has always been serviced by them and has done 45,000 miles but £1300 in 2 weeks seems harsh when it was their faulty design in the first place.
Still its a surprisingly pleasant car and drives well
I only have three or four gripes with the car. On a positive note, the amount of room inside is fantastic - if you have kids as I do, you'll not be dissapointed.
I have the automatic gearbox which leaves a great big space for easy dealings between the front and rear seats. Unfortunately, the gearbox itself is the car's weak link. First of all - and I'm taking an educated guess here given all the positive feedback elsewhere about its lack of thirst - the automatic gearbox LOVES a drink! I'm talking about 200 miles (just) from a full (£45) tank of juice!
It will be partly down to the fact that a flee's sneeze causes the 'box to change down a gear or two which means my forever having to feather the throttle to save fuel.
Other gripes? Given the abundance of space the actual cubby/storage space available is terrible. The glove box will fit only that - gloves! The door pockets are laughable and the flimsy tray under the passenger seat is good for nothing at all. There's a great hole in teh middle of the dash (unless you have the refrigerator) which spits it's contents out at the merest sniff of acceleration, which brings me to my final point.
The car is so slow and the 'box so lethargic that one must have the anticipation of a hunting lioness in order to keep up with traffic - or you could just leave a little earier than you normally would!
