I had one of these for a week as a rental car. The first thing I noticed when I got going was the amount of road noise you get in the cabin! Every little stone or bit of grit in the road rattles in the wheel arches and it makes the whole car feel very cheap and tin-can like. The 1.4 litre engine is NOT fast - but just nippy enough if you rev it hard enough. I liked the stubby little gear lever and notchy changes so overall it was not bad to drive, and it was easy to drive. I am 5'11" and found the seat did not go back far enough, so not a car for tall drivers. I also found that you sit very high up and feel exposed which I do not like, although others may prefer this. Overall not a bad little car but the road noise let it down, and it feels like a cheap car which I did not expect from Honda (and Honda prices!) Got about 38mpg driving around town which is not bad for a small petrol car, but not great either.
We purchased our new Honda Jazz 1.4 SE CVT in May 2008 current mileage, 9000. The 1.4 engines and CVT gearbox combines extremely well and as a city car it is an easy drive returning 45mpg. The suspension is however firm and the ride choppy and can induce car sickness - for us a new experience. The interior design is legendary, lots of space and materials used are not up to German standards although better than most, notwithstanding the fact that the Jazz is expensive for this class of car. Heating and ventilation work well except when driving in prolonged heavy rain whereby window condensation builds such that use of the air conditioning is required for it to clear and remain clear something I have noticed this before in Asian built cars- strange. In strong sunlight, windscreen reflections from the dashboard are apparent in the very centre of the drivers view. No intermittent on the rear wiper or rain sensor on the front wipers. Driver seat adjustment is poor with the seatback adjusted by means of a ratchet lever i.e. not by the usual fine adjustment of a control wheel plus the steering does not have fore/aft telescopic adjustment. Nonetheless, in many ways this is a well put together car, the biggest problem is however the electric steering. Below 40mph it is just acceptable, above that and
I bought an 08 plate car for £7295 with 12K and FSH in mid February 2010 and have driven just over 1000 miles since.
In relation to its age and cost, it is the worst car I have ever purchased in just under 30 years of motoring.
It has four paches of rust (welds), the doors fill with water when it rains due to poorly fitting trims leading to an insurmountable problem with condensation and also wind noise.
I live in a relatively flat area and it returns 25mpg in town, 45 mpg at 70 mph on the motorway and a combined figure of around 40 mpg with all gear changes between 2000 & 3000 RPM. My 1982 Renault 18TS never managed less than 40 mpg and my P Reg Rover 200 about 45 mpg.....On the same journeys, it uses more fuel than the Transit van which it replaced.
Yes the interior layout and space are amazing as are the grip and roadholding, it is also quick off the mark. But the steering and the noise - everything you may have read is true and probably worse.
I rate this car as the perfect little runaround. it has reasonable pull very maneuverable petrol seems to last for ever- always over 40mpg space is fantastic, and it can hold a lot of stuff, including bikes. steering wheel adjustment needs to be worked with, but gearbox and visibility are great try to get one with air con, as the dealers don't want to know, come trade-in time! overall a great car, but perhaps needs a bit more in the mid range for overtaking
I have owned this car for a year now and have…
Just sold my Panda after 5 years of trouble free…
