We purchased our new Honda Jazz 1.4 SE CVT in May 2008 current mileage, 9000. The 1.4 engines and CVT gearbox combines extremely well and as a city car it is an easy drive returning 45mpg. The suspension is however firm and the ride choppy and can induce car sickness - for us a new experience. The interior design is legendary, lots of space and materials used are not up to German standards although better than most, notwithstanding the fact that the Jazz is expensive for this class of car. Heating and ventilation work well except when driving in prolonged heavy rain whereby window condensation builds such that use of the air conditioning is required for it to clear and remain clear something I have noticed this before in Asian built cars- strange. In strong sunlight, windscreen reflections from the dashboard are apparent in the very centre of the drivers view. No intermittent on the rear wiper or rain sensor on the front wipers. Driver seat adjustment is poor with the seatback adjusted by means of a ratchet lever i.e. not by the usual fine adjustment of a control wheel plus the steering does not have fore/aft telescopic adjustment. Nonetheless, in many ways this is a well put together car, the biggest problem is however the electric steering. Below 40mph it is just acceptable, above that and
My wife;District Nurse, bought her Jazz second hand after a hefty recommendation from a friend who has his own garage. The interior is imaginative and well designed .Excellent for town and rural runs although it can get slightly noisy and you do 'feel' the road.Infact we have had such a positive experience I have just sold the Audio to become a two Honda Jazz family.
My wife has an 02 plate Jazz that just keeps going. It is used in stop-start city traffic and rarely sees the open road. Over its life 2 excellent dealers in different parts of the country have looked after it and costs have been low. Gearbox is a delight. Engine smooth; in fact I have to keep glancing at the rev counter to check it's running. Interior space is awesome, whether with 4/5 people on board or when we are in off to the tip mode.
Downside - interior is a bit plasticky and ride is a bit harsh but as a practical runabout that flexes to demands. I can't find better. We are looking to replace it but can't find anything in class that we want more. We have never owned 2 cars the same but it may happen when we finally retire the Jazz. Waiting for the new model to decide.
For the last few years I've driven a Volvo S60 as a company car, but a recent trip into the garage saw me driving the Jazz as a courtesy car for a week.
It was a complete revelation and I can completely endorse all of the comments I have seen regarding its performance, handling and economy.
It's not the most luxurious car you could own, neither does it have heart-stopping performance, but it is a very drivable car with a great gear change, smooth steering and a suprisingly powerful little engine.
Inside it has real Tardis-like qualities, having a cabin as big as the Volvo and a flexibility that the Volvo Saloon just can't match. At the end of the week I was truly sorry to say goodbye to the Jazz.
In a few weeks I change jobs and say goodbye to the company car and the long miles I have become accustomed to every day, so today I placed an order for the Honda Jazz Sport. You know what? I can't wait for it to arrive.
I have owned this car for a year now and have…
Just sold my Panda after 5 years of trouble free…
