I've owned this car for two years and I must have been one of the unfortunate buyers.
The gearbox died with eight months - Honda replaced it free of charge. The dashboard has sharp edges, and the carpet is not very durable.
Having said that, it has a fantastic engine and revving from 6000rpm to 9000rpm is a joy.
The handling in the dry is great, but the minute a bit of moisture hits the road, the back end can become incredibly twitchy. You can end up having to drive it at granny speeds around corners for fear of spinning - which it has done during a low-speed corner.
Then again, this is a roadster. Don't expect great practicality or space (or storage for that matter).
It's fun to drive (in the dry) and great with the roof down - but it Honda could have done better.
I bought the car second-hand and it has been an absolute delight in every way.
It looks stunning and handles brilliantly, if a bit dodgy in the wet. The steering is quick and responsive and the car communicates its every move with the driver.
The drive is fantastic, especially the manic engine revving all the way to 9000rpm. It sends a tingle down my spine every time I red line it. It sounds fantastic and the fuel economy has been surprisingly good - I've managed an average of 27mpg, only 1mpg less then the official figures.
So far I have enjoyed every bit of owning this fantastic car and I would highly recommend it to anyone else.
Fantastic, involved drive. Gearbox is brilliant. It's well equipped, reliable, easy in town and great fun on the open road.
Practical for a sports car, soft luggage cases fit in the boot fine. Does anyone use hard suitcases in a roadster!?
Seats are comfotable, the often-quoted lack of room would be an issue for a family saloon, which this is not. The driving position feels secure and there's no need for the usual acrobatics to reach for something, it's all to hand.
If you're trying to convince yourself that flame-surfacing really is OK, think again.
I owned a 2001 S2000 for three years, and nearly 30,000 miles and it was one of the best cars I have ever owned.
Performance was stunning, and even though it had a very hard life with me and was regularly used on flat-out track days, it never missed a beat.
Sadly I have had to replace it with something a little more practical for long journeys as the high revs and noise got a bit to wearing on the long motorway journeys I currently have to do.
If you are considering a BMW Z4 or Porsche Boxster (particularly the standard model) don't buy one until you have driven this fantastic car.
Order a brochure, find your nearest dealer or book a test drive
Amazing car, once driven, never forgotton, forget all the pretenders like BMW Z4 and Mercedes SLK, they will never have the passion of a Porsche
I love this car! Handling is great, its fun to drive and even reasonably practical!
