    My car

I have a 2003 Elantra 2.0 Si Turbodiesel which has covered 140,000 mls. It is quiet and comfortable and has been totally reliable. Now out of warranty I have just had the timing belt replaced for the second time (70k interval on these cars rather than the normal 50k) and a full service including diesel filter for £175 at a local garage. The engine uses no oil between services and even at 140k miles does not emit any smoke. My car is a hatchback and with the rear seat down the loadspace is large and very useable with few intrusions. It is a great motorway mile eater and pulls well from 1500rpm to the its limit of 4500rpm. 60mph in 5th = about 2200rpm. I have only given 3 stars on What its like to drive becaus on windy twisty roads the handling can be mediocre and the car can become unsettled when pushed hard but I cover a lot of miles and am often in a hurry. When I'm not in a hurry its a pleasure to drive and own. Specs on the Elantra are good - my basic model has aircon and 4speed intermittent wipers. Materials used inside the cabin are very durable and everything still works. The wipers and lights are very good, the seats are comfortable with good support for the driver and there is a decent footrest for the drivers left foot. I get about 500 to 550 miles per 60Litre tank of diesel although this can be easily pushed up to 600+ with rural driving at speeds of 45 - 60mph. A great car which does what it says on the tin and is tough as nails too.

    My car

I have been a Hyundai owner since 1991, starting with a near bomb proof Pony 1.3GL, moving to a Accent 1.3 Si and now I own a 2.0i Diesel TDi Elantra. I always buy second hand and this car was nearly 4 years old and with only 27K on the clock. I have nearly doubled the mileage in a little over a year and it is quite simply the best car I have owned. It will do 118MPH! I get over 40 to the gallon and can run it all day at over 80 without a murmur. The seats are comfortable, the accommodation generous and boot cavernous. I paid £4000 plus my old car (£550 trade in) which is probably half what a Mondeo would cost. The only gripe is servicing costs which are a bit steep but I will probably stay brand loyal as I never have to pay anything other than normal servicing and maintenance - Hyundai really are that good! Totally underrated car so cheap as chips - got my eye on a Terracan or Sonata next.

    My car

The car I own has only done 25k miles and drives well. The boot space is ok and big enough for me. The only letdown is the dash, which is cheap looking. The rear headrest blocks a lot of the rear view when reversing and the rear seats are a bit hard on a long drive.
