My wife and I have driven this for 3 years and found it good. Very versatile, reliable and totally fit for purpose. We've loaded it regularly with all sorts of jumble to help a charity we support. It's taken us up to the Lake District and down to the West Country and Isle of Wight without a problem. Good driving postion too. Five year warranty and 3 years' free servicing with RAC cover was good. To be recommended.
With reference to my previous review dated 16/08/2007, the vehicle suffered a further breakdown.
The problem seems to be the various sensors in the fuel/exhaust system and the main dealers cannot source the problem.
Rather than be stuck on the hard shoulder of a motorway, I have now sold the Matrix.
I like many others did not think that a Hyundai was for me, but I have owned this car from new 3.5 years now and still enjoy the level of space comfort and good equipment. I think it is true to say if you have your doubts go try one and you may be very pleasantly surprised and The warranty is also great, I dont understand why other manufacturers can not match this? I have not had any problems with my matrix. I think the economy is reasonable for such a tall vehicle. Holds the road extremely well a bit noisey but not a problem at speed. Excellent stereo as standard equipment as well. My next car could quite likely be a hyundai again but maybe a diesel for better economy. quality reliability and value, I know I did my homework and have not regretted it
I bought this car second hand at 7 months old – was a real bargain and driving wise has been great as a second car, especially as its only does low mileage.
The DVDs in the headrest were a great option to keep the children quiet and style wise it looks good.
The major downside is the petrol consumption, presumably not coincidence given other reviews.
The really big disappointment is how Hyundai have treated the problem – booked car in for testing to be told the “official testing equipment had been lost” – that was 8 months ago and they still don’t have one!!!
After numerous complaints to Hyundai HQ I am still waiting – I was seriously considering a new 4x4 from Hyundai but have decided against following this treatment.
My advice – great car but insist on a long test drive and check the petrol consumption if you are likely to do anything like normal mileage
Order a brochure, find your nearest dealer or book a test drive
