    My car

we bought new in july 2004,and to date have not had any problem at all.Its ability to run cool in arduos conditions is amazing. We have towed a horsebox and caravan in hot conditions.Even using the air con and being stuck in standstill traffic it copes without getting hot. Being TAXI boss i have owned or driven many new and prestige type vehicles but this is as comfortable and as pleasant to drive as any of them. But mostly its reliability is astonishing though its only done 30k up to now, mind you its really felt most of them! for haevier towing dutie i run a disco commercial too, but only too stay on the right side of the law.Had the SANTA FE been equiped with low range i probably wouldn't have the Disco though. Fuel consumption is amazing for a car like this, averaging 400 to 440 miles on one tankfull,ie.sixty litres. It wouldn't surprise me if Hyundai shot themselves in the foot by discontinuing this model so soon as you don't see as many of the new ones on the road where we live. They obviously have a better product with the new one but it's not the value for money package as the old one.

    My car

I spent 20 years as a journalist till semi-retirement last year, and tested umpteen cars of all sizes and shapes. I rate Hyundai as one of the best for value for money, build quality and all around satisfaction. On retiring I bought a 2002 Santa Fe 2.7 auto. It's a bit thirsty on petrol but pleased me as sturdy, reliable run-about for all occasions. Bags of room and power. Dealers have been good. I have friends with Freelanders with problems. Badge snobs sneer at Hyundais but the Santa Fe gives me last laughs over others who paid more for other 4x4s with lesser merits. It's tempting to hang on to mine and save a lot of money. My wife has a Hyundai Matrix which delights her.

    My car

I bought the car as a pre registered 06 model with 18 miles on the clock in February 2007. It is black and the dealer fitted reversing sensors and tinted rear windows in the price. The vehicle cost £500 more than an 18 month old Santa Fe with 15,000 miles on the clock that was offered to me from another dealership.... what a bargain.

I drove a Land Rover Discovery several years ago and it was so noisy inside, at motorway speeds it felt as though it was going to shake itself apart and you had to shout to be heard. After that I vowed never to get a 4 x 4 diesel..... how wrong can you be.

This car is quiet, economical, handles well and is comfortable. As a CDX model It has every conceivable extra including Leather seats. With a manual gearbox it is returning 34 mpg and this includes a lot of short runs. On a long journey at motorway speeds 40 mpg is easily achievable.

The vehicle is used on regular journeys to France and I miss the 'Quick' headlamp beam adjusters on my BMW 5 series as I do the rain sensitive windscreen wipers.... then I think of the purchase price and reality 'bites back'.

The car has not missed a beat. The dealer could not have been more helpful. I have 4 years warranty left, 3years RAC cover and the dealer supplied half a tank of diesel and 6 months road tax when I took delivery.

I have a 2 year old Getz and it is the same story, 5 star motoring for 2 star money.... If only Hyundai built a BMW 'M3' equivalent....

    My car

I've owned my Santa Fe for just under four years, covering a little over 40,000 miles.

Servicing has been carried out by my local Hyundai dealer without any problems. The tyres have approximately 4mm of tread left and the brakes are 50% worn, which I think is very good for a medium weight 4x4. Service costs appear to be about average, the 40,000 mile service being the most expensive so far at £342.54.

My daughter uses it sometimes to tow a twin-horse trailer and says it is so much better all round than her old Series 3 petrol Land Rover (She doesn't mention that Dad does leave it full of petrol for her).

My average fuel consumption is about 30 miles per gallon - not bad for 2.4 litres and permenant four-wheel-drive. I like all the standard accessories: power roof, electric windows, air con, limited slip rear differential, fog lights, good stereo and little things like the flip-up tailgate back window.

However, the bad points include a poor turning circle, the spare wheel under the boot is subjected to the elements and and it's a pig to fit back into the carrier!

To sum up, it's trouble-free, has no knocks or rattles and I've had good service from the dealer. What else could you ask for?
