This is much better than the older 04 model. The 05 model has improved in power from 140bhp to 160bhp whilst still returning a respectable 32mpg at quite motorway speeds.
Externally there is a more modern styling with a revised lights and front and side trim. An engine immobiliser and alarm is standard plus driver and passenger airbags. There's more space, it's quicker and more economical than a Disco and has better build - and it's great for towing and occasional off-roading.
This is my second Terracan the first was mk1 now own mk3, which is much improved in trim levels inside and out. The main advantage is uprated power to 161bhp with plenty of pulling power as I tow a twin-axle caravan weighing 34cwt with little effort. Overall there is nothing in the price range to touch it.
Strong diesel power upped to 160bhp.
Modern-lookng 4x4 with better handling than its predecessor.
Minimal engine and wind noise.
Fully equipped on the road for £17,356 - very cheap to run for a 4x4 with 37+ mpg.
Solidly built and improved trim.
ABS, remote locking, alarm, immobliser, driver, passenger and side airbags.
Driver's seat adjusts for height and tilt - Steering wheel for height only
Masses of space - bigger than a new Discovery.
Standard trim is fully loaded - will not disappoint.
I purchased the Terracan (03 model) mainly as I was looking for a 4X4 to pull my 23' caravan.
The car pulls the van well, and I have not noticed any undue stress. The van is a 23’ max weight set at 1800kg.
Without the van on the back I am currently averaging 25mpg, and use the car on medium to long drives (150 miles plus).
Equipment as supplied I feel is good value (Econ etc) but lacks cruise control. This I now believe comes with the 05 models.
Cruising at around the 60mph, road noise is not noticeable, but at around the 70mph + a slight increase in road noise can be heard. Road handling feels good at around the 70 or lower mark, but watch high winds and wet roads at speed. Under 50 no problem. A good turning circle.
Off-road, in standard 4 wheel drive has proved very useful, with good traction. Normal drive (even with the van on the back) is in standard 2 wheel drive mode. There is the 3rd option of 4 wheel low but have not had the reason to utilise this.
Though many reviews see the Terracan as an old shape, compared to others larger 4x4 ie the jeep, I cannot see much between them.
Comments back from local and family have been all positive re ride and comfort.
Prior to purchase I test drove the KIA Sorento and Jeep, and found the Terracan better in space, and all around outlook.
Value for money, I feel it is a good offer.
