I purchased this car in January 2006. The car in general has taken some getting used to, but after a few weeks I now quite like it.
There is one major issue for me - the poor fuel economy. I do long drives and I have not had more than 28 miles to the gallon yet. The dealer told me to wait until the car reaches 5000 miles and I will get more.
If I don't, I will be selling it!
We have had this car for exactly a year now and while it looks good (due to the extras we added) and goes well enough, we have had the most annoying rattling noise from somewhere on the car for some time.
We noticed it early on but it didn't bother us too much, but it has now got louder and we have done some long journeys and it is the most annoying continual noise ever. As it is still under warranty it has been back to the dealer three times, the last time for a whole week, and they can't find it. Not only can't they find it, but they have now decided that it doesn't exist!
Everyone can hear it except the workshop people, and that would be due to the fact that as a warranty issue, it is not profitable for them to spend time working on it. So, to summarise, it's a good enough car for performance etc, but the least we all want is no rattling and a decent warranty! Think about that before you buy.
I bought this model in December 2005 and find it very comfortable and great fun to drive.
The major criticism is fuel consumption. Manufacturers' figures are way off the mark, my dealership even changed the fuel-management system to try to improve efficiency.
My driving is mainly on the open road and the best I have ever got is 32mpg (not using the onboard computer system of course as it's useless).
However, if you forgive the fuel failing, the car is excellent value and I would happily give it four stars. Don't be put off by the badge, it's a very well built 4x4.
We spent many months deciding on this car, having had great reliability from our past RAVs but due to the need for more space in the rear we made the change.
We have now had the car 10 months and done 11,000 miles, we have covered both on road and off, we think the car is great.
As with a few poeple the fuel consumption seems a little higher than expected but was not as bad as first thought before we became aware that the trip computer was using the US gallon, an error I am told by Hyundai that will be corrected.
For this type of car we feel that our avarage of 33mpg is good.
Our only other small complaint would be that the 2.0 litre is slightly slow off the mark.
But taking into account the equipment, the space for the family, the warranty, and that its drive certainly outshines our last two Rav4's, we would buy again and highly recommend it.
