    My car

I have owned the 2.2 diesel for 5 and 1/2 years and other than regular servicing it has not been near a garage. It is fast and economical and I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone. My one complaint at the time of purchase was that this model did not come with the choice of auto gearbox. regardless of what the official MPG is I never get less than 40mpg and usually it is around 45 in mixed driving conditions.

    My car

Purchased Jaguar X type, mine was a 2004 with 30,000 mileson the clock.

It was an SE spec so had leather and onboard computer.

3 years later with 120,000 miles on the clock I finally sold it.

In that time I only broke down once, and that was purely a engine sensor that failed. Even this was because I had the car serviced at my local garage and they managed to damage the engine undertray which resulted in water spraying the bottom of the engine which damaged the sensor.

Great car to drive, lovely equipment and ultra reliable. The reliabity and econmoy of a Mondeo with the looks of a Jaguar.

I would definately recommend this car. Even did a 3000 mile round trip to Spain without any issues. Fuel econmoy was excellent with high 40's the norm.

I did have a flat tyre late on a Sunday night, used the space saver wheel and drove home at the recommended 50 mph. The car returned 65MPG !! Can not highly recommend this car, I only hope the replacement X type is as good.

    My car

I have a 2.0D XS Special Edition which has a nice bodykit and 18in wheels. Bought this last October with 92k on the clock for 6k. Had a variety of different cars before this and I have to say it's great value for money.

In 10 months I have done 28,000 miles and the car has not let me down. I average 47MPG with about 600 miles to a full tank of fuel. Tax is £125 a year which for anyone who doesn't undestand the CO2 conundrum always shocks and surprises. It's enjoyable to drive and feels like a premium car. Corners well enough and is comfortable at both slow and motorway speeds.

Yes the stereo could be better and the engine could have a little more ooomph (compared to the 2.0 TDI's by VW or the 2.0 diesels in 318 or 320 guise both economy and power are not as good) but overall it's a sound car.

Watch the electrics as they are beginning to get suspect with the headlamp going a couple of times but otherwise no issues.

If you are on a budget (Which most people are nowadays) and can't afford the extra 2-3k for a German car, then you can't go wrong. Well worth a look.

Be wary of Servicing charges as Jaguar charge a stupid amount of money. Find yourself a specialist or a reputable private garage and save yourself £100.

Given the advances made with the XF I look forward to the follow up. If the XF had a 2.0 Diesel engine like the BMW 5 Series it would be next on my radar. I'd have no qualms about buying another Jaguar as a result of this experience.

    My car

I have owned a 2002 2.0 litre V6 for nearly 2 years now and I have been more than happy with this car. Although I opted for the smaller engine size with only 2 wheel drive, with the recent snow it has performed fantastic. Driving it is a pleasure and so quiet (but if you excelerate hard you get quite a nice roar!). I drive to work on a mixture of country roads and motorway and the country roads are where it is most fun to drive with cornering not an issue. In its first year though I did have a problem with the ABS sensor which was quite costly to fix but apart from its usual service, there have been no issues to worry about. Fuel economy is ok so long as you don't thrash it too much. Overall I have been very pleased with this car and plan to sell it for a newer model. Would definitely recommend.
