I am delighted with this car, which I bought used on a 53-plate with 55,000 miles last June. Its handling, interior, equipment and road presence are marvelous. It is very relaxing to drive and plenty fast enough.
I extended the warranty with Jaguar for two years, but get the impression it's so well built I've wasted my money.
I drive mainly short urban trips and thus only achieve 23mpg but get into the 30s on long runs.
I may get a diesel one when the prices come down, as its 249g/km carbon dioxide emissions will mean it will cost a lot to park and drive shortly. The diesel falls under 225g/km.
Go on, buy a used one.
Simply the best car in real world terms. Fantastic power, ride and overall experience. It begs to be driven hundreds of miles and the more you drive it the better it gets. The aluminium lightweight body allows it to hustle around country roads at an amazing speed for such a big car - but it really comes into its own on fast sweeping bends and for the long haul. Is there a better car in the real world for transporting yourself and your family - I doubt it
The German brands (BMW, Merc, Audi etc) are the usual hunting ground for people wanting an exec car, and I've driven/owned many exec models of those. They're efficient machines. They're rational. This is something different. For a start, the power is absolutely breathtaking: 0-60 in a fraction under 5 seconds with the right fuel, an engine of the size and noise levels to make environmentalist faint, (we have done a carbon offset donation!) and it takes real handling skills. It won't do it all for you - it has a slight mind of its own - it is almost more "alive" than machine. Not one for the novice driver - put your foot down too vigorously and you'll be through three counties before you find the brake pedal. Amazing car, simply amazing, and a bargain second-hand. Don't expect it to be cheap, do expect to be grinning madly.
This car is fantastic - in 2004 I bought a 1 owner, 18 month old model, trading up from a BMW 730d, in 2005 I changed this for a brand new XJ-6 Sovereign.
The car is fantastic, it is as economical as the BMW 730d, better to drive, better equiped, has a better ride quality and makes a lovely noise through those big twin exhausts.
Reliabiltiy is fabulous, the dealer network is superb and overall, once you have driven one of these, you may never drive anything else again.
Complete stunner!
