Ive had my picanto for just over 8 months and in that time i has proved itself very well. i regualy travel to an from germany form the north east of england and for the type of car it is, it holds its own on the auto barn vey well. for my first car i made the right choice gting my picanto. the only down side i would say is that if you need a decent size boot you may strugle. but with the back seats folded all th way down its gives you more than enough space. i would recomend someone looking for a small car to have a look at one if not buying one of these fun little cars.
I Love my little car . its a brilliant little run around , my model is a picanto 1.1 Glamour, 5 door, i bought it second hand from a kia dealers in August '07, it came with Alloys , rear spoiler and skirting , its a 55 reg and only had 5000 miles on the clock ,personally i think its a nippy little car considering the size of the engine , i used to do a lot of miles a week going to and from work all motorway driving , it keeps up with all the other cars , ok its a bit sluggish going up hills but what can you expect from a 1.1 , i dont find the noise at high speeds too bad , ive driven worse , i do admit that the boot space could be a bit bigger , but that would mean sacrificing the leg room in the rear seats , and id rather have my passengers be comfortable , ive fitted three in the back with ease and space , The dash board is very basic but has lots of nooks and crannies to store all you need , its been a good runner , you make savings all round with this car , on the price of the car , the road tax , the insurance , the fuel , after this car my next one will deffinately be another Kia Picanto . ive had VW's, Fords , mercedes , but this car is the only car that i have had that i will get again !its the best little car you could buy .
I bought a new Picanto in July 07, and have done about 4000 miles in it since. It's my first car, and I'm very happy with it.
The car's interior is basic and somewhat plastic-y, but nicely laid out and the stereo is pretty good. For such a small car it is surprisingly comfortable, which I found when I did a 250 mile trip recently. My 6ft friends have no problems in the front or back, although it is quite a narrow car. The boot is tiny, but with careful packing I can get a fair amount in there. There is also additional space under the floor cover.
I find it very easy to drive, and although it is sometimes slow to accelerate, with careful use of the gears you can get to top speeds easily. I have no problems keeping up with motorway traffic, nor do I find overtaking difficult. It tends to be noisy on some road surfaces but in general it's comparable to other small cars. It can be a bumpy ride sometimes but the suspension is generally fine. Fuel consumption is okay with around 300 miles to the tank. It's very easy to park as it is tiny, and large wing mirrors give excellent vision.
Overall, I'm very pleased with my Picanto. I didn't drive cars for a couple of years after getting my licence, preferring my motorbike, but I found I needed a car for work. It's certainly not a 'cool' car, and it's not for boy racers, but once you get used to the way it drives it's excellent value for money in my opinion. I would happily recommend one to others.
Great Little car when driven on what is now 3 test drives in various models, though I prefer the 1.1LX. I will be purchasing one soon.
Why oh why do reviewers both amateur and pro comment badly on interior/the wheels/ and what the seats are like?? Who cares what colour the wheels are and if the seats go back forward up down or even sideways. When I purchase a car I look for reliabilty, good mechanics and the fact that I will be able to get from A to B with no help from a AA or RAC wagon. Besides in this day and age, have too much of a sporty flashy car and it is likely to be nicked.
I found it fine over bumps and potholes, perhaps the pro reviewer on here took it across a field? On one test drive I drove at 55-60mph on a dual carriageway.............road noise? very gently yes but nothing severe. Perhaps again the reviewer had the windows down?
Reliabilty? I expect it to do well, will have to comment further after a period of ownership. Safety and security, I would think it to be ok. But if you are someone who deliberately leaves laptops on full view, expect damage I guess. Drive safely and you won't need the airbags.........cool eh?
