    My car

My gripe with this car is the discrepancy between stated fuel economy and the actual fuel economy. We researched the car and even queried head office on the figures, which they assured us were correct.

However, we get nothing like the stated 68.9 extra urban mpg, only 52mpg. Kia thinks this is within acceptable limits! We think that at the best this is misleading to say the least.

They did offer to do a test - a 120-mile trip in perfect conditions, with no passengers, luggage, or air-conditioning on (does anyone actually drive like that?). Oh, and we get to pay £150 if they find the results 'acceptable'... I don't think so! The problem is, what do they mean by acceptable?

What a shame. I actually like the car and we were considering replacing our other car with a Cee'd, but now have no confidence in the integrity of the manufacturer and have bought our first and last Kia.

If you are considering buying a Kia based on their quoted specifications, you have been warned.

    My car

I bought a new Kia Rio CRDI GS on 30/04/07, and have loved the car from day one.

I noticed at 5000 miles that the very inside of the front tyres were scrubbing, especially the offside. You wouldn't notice unless you turn the steering to full lock.I started to look at other Rios in car parks. The first one was a 55 plate with low mileage and, to my horror, when I looked at the front o/s tyre it was worn right through to the canvas, and the wire was hanging out, yet the other 95% of the tread was fine.

I told the lady driver and she thought it was okay as the rest of the tyre looked fine. It was worn on the very inside just like mine. The next day I bumped into another Rio owner who, like me, said he liked the car, but said that he had to keep changing the tyres round on the wheels as they were wearing to the inside, even with the tracking set.

Kia say there are no reported problems about this.

I don't have a problem with it now: I took it back to the dealer and exchanged it for a new Mitsubishi Colt 1.1.

Unfortunately I have lost £2,250 in three months.

Calling all Rio owners: turn your steering full lock, and check your tyres.

    My car

We bought our brand new Kia Rio in March of this year.

We had the car about three weeks when we noticed we did not seem to have much power, and there seemed to be a squeaking noise coming from the steering column. Also, the quarter panel that holds the parcel shelf was broken.

We contacted our dealer to see if they could repair it under the warranty. It took some weeks to get it booked in for repair. They had to replace the turbocharger and some gaskets.

I had to take the car back again to get the quarter panel fixed. They have not fixed the noise from the steering column.

The accelerator is very light, so be careful going over bumps, but the car does have plenty of headroom.

    My car

This car has a great diesel engine which achieves 50mpg - I always find you have to subtract 10mpg from official figures to get the proper mpg.

The light throttle and high torque can catch you out in a low gear but are fine once you are used to it.

I found the air conditioning annoying at first as it turned itself on and off, but once again it was okay once I had figured it out. I suspect some people may have it on all the time, hence the low mpg.

The car is quiet and smooth at speed. All in all it is good value for the money.
