I bought this car new in October 2003 having looked at the Chrysler Grand Voyager the Kia was far better value for money - I have now done 70,000 miles and think it is a great car - stacks of space although seats weigh a ton when removing - i have transported floor tiles back from France and numerous DIY bits and pieces, take the 2 rear seats out and 4 sets of golf clubs in the boot with luggage and 4 adults in the 4 captains seats and trundle down to portugal no problem. I have just changed the original battery - steering rack needed replacing 6 months ago a but expensive but apart from that only regular servicing. I am looking to change the car and keep coming back to the new Kia. I dont drive carefully and get about 30 - 34mpg
Love this mpv...we tested all the mpv's on the market and this one is the best by far. The 2,2,3 layout is brilliant as you can walk up and down the vehicle without opening a door - great if you need to sort out numerous kids. The sliding doors are the best thing - especially in todays tiny car park spaces. I've often had envious glances from parents trying to squeeze their car seats into a standard door next to another vehicle. All the seats are like armchairs with plenty of space, arm rests, individually controlled air vents and drinks holders/ trays etc.
It drives like a dream and the raised driving postition is a great advantage.
It is a tad thirsty but not if you drive well. Also the tax will go through the roof soon - but who cares - well worth it according to my tribe.
Fuel pump failure at 30k miles has effectively written this car off after 4 years of ownership from new. Kia have declined to contribute to a £5000 bill to replace the fuel injection system. The car also suffered from intermittent gearbox failure from the outset which took 3 years and multiple trips to the dealership to remedy. Worryingly I've seen several reports of similar fuel pump problems
