Since my initial review I have now owned the car for 6 months and over 10,000 miles. The mpg seems to be consisted at 35mpg regardless of whether it is my 6 mile commute to work or longer runs at 'motorway speeds'. Setting the cruise control to 70 gets a few more mpg.
The 10,000 mile service at the local dealership was no problem and they even washed the car which is something I haven't encountered before (although the Audi dealership said that this is something they do).
The car has been faultless to date and didn't use any oil during the running in (my boss's Alfa uses 1 litre/ 1000 miles which is apparently normal!).
I am one happy customer. Everyone who has seen, or been in the car likes it too. When I was looking at buying a new car one of my friends who is in the motoring trade advised me against Korean cars - now he is looking at buying a Kia himself.
I have spent all my working life in company cars doing in excesss of 50 thousand miles a year.I had a budjet of £18000 to purchase a company car.My wife convinced me to try a Kia sportage.I loved it from the moment I drove it it has everything you need at hand uncomplicated. The drive is a pleasure and having only owned it for two weeks and covered three thousand miles I love to get in it and drive. The ford mondeo is a fantastic car to drive but the Kia has its own qualities that only people with there eyes open will get to enjoy.
ITS BLACK,GOT TINTED WINDOWS, LOOKS FANTASTIC, HANDELS LIKE A DREAM i love this car 100% would i buy another kia? to dam right i would its full of safety for the family, sales rep were very helpful at kia. walked in to shop to look and within about 5 min they gave me the keys to test drive it- no problems. (Hyundai said come back in 3 days time so we can get it out for you they lost a cash sale)
I went for the petrol 2L ( at the time diesels were about £2,000 more) it loves petrol. I get about 250 miles out of a tank (£40) about 20 mpg round town and 40 on a run in 5th gear at about 65mph. at times that can be down to 25mpg at around 70mph on the m/way. sun roof is fantastic. air con climet control is a must on a long run in the heat of the summer. the heated seats are fantastic for the back. its a pitty the mirrors dont fold in at a touch of a button. this car is full of fantastic stuff, the 4wd kickin in automaticaly is a good feature. road tax has not gone up to much in april.
rear reats reacline loads of leg room for the back passangers and seats fold down flat 40/60 you can get loads of stuff in the back. the back door opens fully or you can have just the window part open.
The MP3CD player - it's just too sensitive - jumping at the slightest bump in the road. it's not good for a 4x4 SUV that is designed for more rugged terrain, the speaker quality is excellent. no place to plug i-pod but the 07 does have this now.
See also my post for April 2007 when we first got this six-speed 138bhp ex-demo car at six months old.
Since then, it has proved its off-road prowess in rain-soaked, axle-deep mud with standard tyres.
Running a 'real' 4x4 Land Rover with the 'right' tyres, I was well impressed with the Kia. It's also a great road car and I prefer it to my VW Touran 140 TDI which is also a dream to drive.
The only thing I have noticed, which is not a fault but a warning to others, is that the diesel particulate filter goes into regenerative mode occassionally, and when it happens,t he heat coming out the twin pipes at the back is unbelieveable - I thought it was on fire! If parked on grass, it would be!
It is getting a common thing on all makes and, I am told, has melted the paint on workshop floors when it happens, so beware.
It's due its first service in September, so I will see the costs then.
