I bought my 52 reg Freelander TD4 ES new in September 2002. We have been very pleased with the service we have received from the different Land Rover dealerships over the past six years. However once the car was out of warrenty I always used an independent for MOT's and serviceing. The car returned around 30mpg towing and early 40s solo on a run. The car was totally reliable over the 52000 miles of our ownership. This was our second Land Rover and we have placed an order for a new Freelander 11 from 1st September. I had no trouble selling my Freelander to a private buyer. In our opinion the Freelander TD4 manual is an excellent car and we would recommend it to anyone.
this car is the most unreliable car i have owned it is 2 years old has had over ten faults and still ongoing faults which landrover cannot seem to sort out,it resently broke down on holiday twice once on the way and then on the way back the second time was due to landrover fitters not doing there job correctly, landrovers customer care is rubbish just like there cars .............
I have written before, but now I have owned my 2003 Freelander TD4 SW for 10 months. It has covered just over 12,000 miles, and the car has been a dream.
When I first got it, I had a remap done to boost the power to 145bhp. This has made a huge difference, with less changing down on hills and far more response when you touch the accelerator. I have a 100-mile round trip to the office and get 39mpg (although I'm no boy racer).
As far as reliabilty goes, well, not a thing has gone wrong. I've recently thought about a change, to get better fuel economy or a smoother ride. But, to be frank, nothing comes close when you consider the car's current value (£6500-ish)...
What else can I get that does the same all-round job?
I owned a 3-door TD4 03 model for 18 months and had no problems with it at all - it never let me down once.
Only problem was the small boot space but 3 kids do have a lot of stuff. Twin flip sun roofs and the removable back were well fun in the summer.
Couldnt fault this car - it took everything I threw at it and came back for more.
Would definately have another - no question.
