Well, 1 month into ownwership, everything has been great, just returned from a short holiday with it and i achieved over 40 to the gallon whilst away with it. It pulls well, it's comfortable, it has all the toys, and the wife loves it! I had an audi a4 avant before and that was great, it used to do well over 50 to the gallon anywhere so considering the size of the Freelander well done Land Rover. I tried the hill descent option a number of times when offroad and it worked well, the only negative things i can think of is that the tyres at speed are noisy and some little transmission noises at certain speeds, but that's a 4x4, isn't it! I'm really fussy with cars and this is a great car so far!!
Like a previous owner - great dream - rubbish reality - I had the gearbox changed under warranty - have had numberous noises and clatters and the lack of height adjustment in the seat - even at 5.10 is rubbish....
Yes it's good-ish looking and has nice seats and is ok on the M6 but...
Without wishing to sound patronising - it is good ladies 4x4.
Fuel efficiency and scandalous diesel costs mean it's being traded in ASAP...I am REALLY disappointed with Land Rover for not crushing each one that is traded in instead of pawning them off to innocents like me.
We bought this car new in March '04 and apart from normal wear and tear (track rod ends and 1 puncture) we have had no problems whatsoever. Which is a bit of a blow because I never really liked it much from the beginning, she however has loved it like a child. I'm just 6ft tall, I have to stoop to drive it, there is no height adjustment for the seats. If I sit up straight to drive,I'm looking at the front roof lining. Running costs are not as low as we were expecting - averaging about 30 when she drives it, less when its me. We had the last service done by a recommended franchise as opposed to a main dealer because they charge you like a wounded Rhino. They wanted nearly £400. That all said, it does have some really good points-main one for me is in the summer whent the roofs off.Its a bit of a faff to do it but great fun once its done.Just enough room to fit a couple of surfboards behind the rear seats and lean them against the targa style roof. Lots of good stuff on the SE spec and all quite solidly put together too. To summarise, I love it and hate it, bit like watching England play rugby.
I have had this car for 6 months and I want to get rid of it. The fuel consumption is extortional,I bought it with 42K miles on the odometer, I have clocked 57K now in 6 months but I have had to do the brake pads (£300), the injector (£545) and another £116 to get it checked for smoke. all these expenses within 6 months. I have made a new year resolution to part exchange it for Hyndai. My advice will be please if you will doing such mileage like me then please this is not the car for you, There should be other cars made for us. I found the octavia very economical. I am yet to try it. Then I will decide between the Hyndai and the octavia. I forgot to mention I have just noticed the car is vibrating now, I do not know what is wron with it this time. i will keep you posted on the cost.
