What Car? says

4 out of 5 stars

For The super-reliable IS is good to drive, has individual looks and comes well equipped

Against The cabin is disappointing, rear accommodation is tight, no diesels and it's expensive to buy

Verdict It's a likeable compact executive car that's a sensible owning proposition, but dear to buy

Go for… 2.0 SE manual

Avoid… None

Lexus IS Saloon
  • 1. The cabin looks good, and its equipment levels easily beat those of rivals
  • 2. Watch out for corrosion on the alloy wheels, as this is a known weak point on the IS
  • 3. Owners have reported clutch judder problems, but dealers are usually sympathetic about picking up the tab for repairs to new-ish cars
  • 4. Space in the back is tight for adults, particularly when three sit abreast
  • 5. The boot isn't particularly big, which could be a problem if you need a family car
