I have just loaded a chest of drawers, tool kits and luggage and miscellaneous household goods for a trip up the A9 from Glasgow to Aviemore.
The car swallows huge goods and gear effortlessly and will travel the A9 with ease. The elevated driving position and four-wheel drive will guarantee a stress-free journey on a difficult road, especially if there is snow.
The quiet sophistication of an excellent estate will only be spoiled by disappointing fuel economy. The car will cosset with all its standard equipment and is a more impressive package than my former ML320 and X5 diesel.
Complaints? None except for the unwanted standard privacy glass at the rear! On a recent recall for an error in the high-intensity rear light, which according to Lexus had not affected any British car, I was given a full tank of fuel and a bottle of Champagne. Customer satisfaction writ large!
My last 4 vehicles were a Range Rover 1998-2000, a Range Rover 2000-2002, a BMW 530 2002-May 2004, and a May 2004 Lexus RX 300 Ambassador.
The quality of this car and the way it's been put togeather is as good as any of the above if not better.
I use it as a second car, so the economy is not a factor for me but around town it does consume, so in all fairness I could only give it 3 but on overall I just had to give it 5.
Would I buy another one next year? Yes I would. The RX420 hybrid arrives after Christmas.
