It is basically a good car to drive with a responsive engine however in two years I have replaced the clutch, brake discs and 4 tyres. But, most of all, I have had 3 EGR valves replaced at £350 a time, numerous inspections of the EGR system and still every two or three hundred miles the engine warning light comes on. I have tried two Mazda dealer to try and rectify the problem to no avail. The last try by the dealer said that the "solenoids are working as is the EGR valve however, there is no suction at the valve". The technician said that the pipes from the solenoid to the valve pass thru the car bulkhead and to inspect them would mean dismantling the bodywork, a day or more labour at £85 an hour. And, even then, that might not be the problem. So I am faced with at least £600 bill to add to the £1000 already spent and that might not be the answer. I wish I had never seen this car and I would not recommend it to anyone.
I purchased this car new in 2006 and first impressions were very positive, the car is pretty much fully loaded as standard. being the TD model my car was fitted with the DPF and here is where my problems began, unless you do high mileage the dpf deposits unburnt fuel back to the sump, every time i dipped the oil it was halfway up the dipstick diluting the oil.Eventually the dpf warning light comes on and the car goes into limp you home mode, Mazda has no cure for this except to tell you to do more miles!I eventually swapped the car for a petrol model which has been 100% reliable
Having owned my 6 since feb 07 and having previously owned 2 vectras which I was very pleased with I am generally pleased overall with the 6. Its quick, smooth, comfortable, agile and fairly economical for a 2.0l petrol (33 ish round town,40ish on a run). Economy is dictated by how heavy your right foot is...The level of equipment is very good, but quality is lacking in areas such as seat coverings, carpeting and the paint is so thin and soft the slightest contact will cause damage. My pet hates are, it mists up very easily and takes ages to de-mist, reverse gear can be a pain to engage, very poor vision on reversing, the drivers electric window has an intermittent fault, and I am just starting to get some clutch judder after 14000 miles. Its due a service in a couple of months so I will ask the dealer to check any problems out. The only problem I had with the car was a blown manifold gasket witch took the dealer 3 days to fix (I had a courtesy car),but upon recieving the car back I noticed the lower edge of the front bumper had been scuffed. The dealer denied all knowledge and even though I knew it wasnt there when the car went in, I couldnt prove it..so dealer 1, me 0. Silly things let the car down, but in hindsite I would probably have another mazda, purely on value for money.
Having owned two Mercedes C Class previously, it took a while to adapt to the rather characterless Mazda. Controls were not as intuitive as M-B and needed to study handbook. However, it performs well, has been very reliable and swallows masses of luggage without impact on performance. Engine noise somewhat high at M-way speeds and driver's seat lacks supportiveness in lower spine and at shoulder height. Not always easy to reverse. Other than these matters, it's a fine car with zesty performance and plenty of style. Ease of rear-seat flat folding is excellent engineering. Local dealer is good and fought my case over slight rust in rear wheel-arches -- looked after my interests well and no recurring problems. I'd be tempted by another Mazda 6.
