Bought this car in July 09 as a demonstrator with about 4000 miles on the clock. It followed an A3 TDI Sport and an Octavia VRS diesel. Much as I enjoyed the VRS the Mazda is in my view a more rounded package. Less overtly sporting but more refined and just as quick with less understeer and a better ride than the stiffly sprung Skoda and ridiculously hard riding A3. Engine is smoother with more linear power delivery and the equipment level is much higher. The blind spot monitoring system is brilliant and if the EU want to do something useful for once they shold make it compulsory! Doing 25K plus miles a year, I've gone through a lot of cars over the years and this is the only one that has not had a single fault in 58000 miles. Interior is well put together but not in the Audi league although the quality of the carpet seems a bit poor. Plenty of room for adults in the back and a big boot area.Comfortable long distance cruiser and on board display normally shows over 50mpg. I'm ready for a change but it has been such a good car I'm reluctant to get rid of it!
I have owned this car since Feb2010 and it replaces my last Mazda6 which was the 136bhp Sport version.
The car represents excellent value for money, with a comprehensive equipment list that includes a Bose stereo, 18inch aloys, xenon lamps, heated half leather seats, electric folding mirrors and also a rear view monitoring system for blind spots on the near side and off side.
This kit bought as extra's on a BMW or VW would probably cost the equivalent of this car to start with!
The sport also looks brilliant. Mine is in Aurora Blue Mica and really looks the part, especially with the modestly tinted rear glass and chromework.
On average the sport returns 42mpg but if I want to have some fun and use the ooodles of torque on offer, it can be as low as 30mpg. The engine on this car is superb and never feels stressed. It responds brilliantly to driver input and is incredibly flexible. This mated with the cars superb handling makes for fun times. The low profile tyres and sports suspension do feedback the road surface well, with the only downside being a spot of harshness on bumpy roads.
Interior wise, the materials and build are not too bad. The seats are comfy and there are a few cheap plastics. No squeeks or rattles tho!
The only thing that lets this car down, is the shocking service that I have had from my two local dealers. They seem to have scant disregard for customer service and always seem uninterested with any enquiries or issues that I may have.
Great car to drive, runs better on Toyos than standard fit Dunlops better wear and noise. Great list of options as standard bose sound system, Xenon lamps, etc 40+ mpg, Ive done 32000 miles in this car business and pleasure the best in its class.
