This site is so important as an impartial tool. A follow on from my report of 12/6/08. Now done almost 20k miles. Still no problems other than minor interior rattles. Just polished it today and both interior and exterior finish is still like new. No change in the way it drives or economy issues. I can't really fault this car. Expecting baby late in the year and researching other family cars on this and other sites fills me with dread about the replacement for our other car. Bet I can't find a family motor that is as reliable, economical, stylish and fun to drive as the MX5. I'm going to keep mine forever and hand it down to the kids when I have a zimmer!

    My car

Well this day had to come eventually, I suppose. After over four years of fun, I am saying goodbye to my beloved Mk III Mazda MX-5 with heavy heart. The saying goes that you cannot consider yourself a petrol head until you've owned an Alfa Romeo; I think that should now be amended to say you cannot consider yourself a petrol head until you've owned an MX-5. The worlds best selling roadster has been a joy to live with, it's been affordable and great fun to drive. Alright, it's not the fastest or most powerful roadster ever made but it's all about handling, ride and steering being ultimately more important to driving pleasure than outright speed and there's enough practicality for a weeks shopping or a weekends luggage. So why then am I getting rid, you may ask? The answer is that I no need the practicality of a larger more family-centric vehicle (and at my age getting in and out wasn't getting any easier!). So it's farewell then MX-5 you'll be missed. I stand by my opinions as I stated in earlier reader reviews, everyone owes it to themselves to own an MX-5 at some point in their life.

Got mine as an ex demo. Lowered with bilstein springs and RX8 alloy wheels plus bespoke leather and spoiler. Excellent car test drove a TT and the MX 5 is better. Reliable and goes like the clappers. Only snag so far is a water leak in the boot which the dealer sorted ASAP. If you want a good sports car this is the one now it has lost it's hair dresser image

Fantastic steering. Good build quality. As much fun to drive (or more) than the TT, bu 2/3rds the price.
