Mine must be a rogue as there is little body role and sticks well to the road at all times.Fuel consumption on a heavy right foot is sometimes scary but can be driven sensibly to improve into the mid 20s.The only problem is what to replace it with as a package nothing comes close.
Bought this car in 2002 after seeing it parked in a car park! We were looking for a family car with plenty of room for kids and dogs all for a reasonable price. We have had no problems at all since we bought the Tribute. We bought the 3.0 V6 Auto rather than the 2.0 model as when we test drove these we felt that the 2.0 model did not have enough power - very sluggish, not enough engine power for the size of car. Also leather seats in V6 Auto much more family friendly as is automatic gearbox for long and short journeys alike. The car is spacious and comfortable - a perfect family car. I do agree that the car has too much body-roll and steering is quite light, but it's not that bad a ride and very nippy too! Also better on road than off. Running costs can be quite high, although for the national average miles per year that our car does, this isn't a problem - wouldn't recommend it if you do a high mileage. Was very disappointed when I found out Mazda had stopped making the Tribute as would definately have bought another. If you do an average mileage and are looking for a nippy, robust, family car with plenty of room that can sufficiently handle most terrains then this is the car for you. The advantages certainly outweigh the disadvantges. Got my eye on the diesel CX 7 now!
I have owned this car for the last three years. Bought it new from the dealer. This car is powerful and enjoyable to drive.
The only problem is the high fuel consumption, apart from that it beats the CR-V and other similar cars, for everything.
The What Car? road test doesn't do justice to the car.
The 2005 models have a different four-wheel drive system, also the gear shift was moved to the floor, the 2-litre engine was dropped and the Mazda 6; 2.3 liters is offered.
