WE HAD AN A140 THROUGH THE CAR SCHEME AND I CAN HONESTLY SAY THIS WAS THE BIGGEST LOAD OF RUBBISH I HAVE EVER HAD. FIRST THE DEALERS TREATED US LIKE SOMETHING THEY HAD WIPED OFF THEIR SHOE. AS FOR THE CAR IT HAD SQUEALING BRAKES WHICH WE WERE TOLD IT WAS A REGULAR THING THAT HAPPENS ON THIS MODEL.LEAKING WASHER BOTTLE FEED PIPE WHICH LEAKED THROUGH THE HEADCLOTH.PASSENGER DOOR MIRROR GLASS WHICH JUST FELL OFF.THE RIDE WAS SO UNCOMFORTABLE!WE WERE GLAD TO SEE THE BACK OF IT. HAVE A PICASSO NOW WHICH IS JUST FAB!
I bought it 3 months old, had it 4 years - never a problem, very nippy around town, has capable power on motorways, can remove (and often do) the back seats to get a huge load area.
I've used it for long distances - it's like any other small car.
Can't really fault it. Easy to park, discrete, reliable.
Merc dealers are overpriced - but hey!
The car was purchased from a dealer as an ex demonstrator with 3k miles and now nearly 4 years later with 70k on the clock I can say it suits my needs exactly. Although the turning circle is poor, road noise and windowscreen wiper motor noise are noticable not unacceptable (radio normally on)and the plus factors driving position, performance, flexibilty etc exceed these. I still have the original tyres on the rear and only changed the front at 64k and generally achieve 40mpg, higher on longer journeys. Servicing is expensive, but includes courtesy car which is essential as this is my company car. Now looking to replace and would definately have another, will find how resale values are at this time!
I have owned this car for over 1 year and it has been a sound investment. my spec is the 2004 classic LWB 1.4 which returns a calculated 37mpg around town and 53mpg on a motorway run if driven properly. The space is better than anything in its class and it is always reliable. The cabin build is a little shaky and the 95bhp is sometimes a little weak but that is something i can live with. if you are thinking of buying one it is a wise investment and lets face it having a mercedes benz is not a bad place to be.
