Having previously owned two 6 cylinder BMW 3 series, this car is a step up in the performance stakes, it has massive mid range pull and is always smooth and quiet, the gearbox is also very smooth and rarely is kick down needed. The car in silver with the sports pack looks very smart and classy. Fuel consumption has seen lows of 30mpg and highs of 42mpg. Build quality and finish is excellent, the stereo system is the standard for car but is better than the expensive harmen kardon system i had in the last BMW. I miss the parking censors from the standard fitment of the BMWs, but otherwise very pleased all round, just be careful to watch the speedo!
Having now owned my C-Class for a little over a year, I am still very happy with it. My one complaint about it is that its not a Jaguar XF, which I have just test driven!
The car still drives extremely well, although I have now found a car that rides better and has better seats (the XF). The steering is very direct and its easy to place the car just where you want it.
The fuel economy still remains impressive as long as I don't use it for short journeys around town.
I'm still awaiting the car's first service as I haven't driven it much over the winter, so the cost of that remains to be seen.
The rising cost of diesel has caused me to re-think running costs down from a five-star rating to a four.
If I had regular rear seat passengers then I suspect the practicality would be less well appreciated, but as it is I find it adequate.
The boot is well shaped and has enough space for my needs. The front of the car is particularly roomy and everything still feels well put together.
Overall, I'm still very happy.
In Dec '06 I Purchased a 52 plate C180 for 12k for my wife as a xmas gift.First impressions left us both delighted, the car, the free coffee and service, whilst buying the car at the exeter dealership was second to none. Then it went down hill from there, the car was hastily handed over after being two days late with no phone calls explaining why. The twelve months road tax had mysteriously turned to six months and the log book and the spare key was missing. After ten weeks of delightful driving and the promotional christmas hamper finally turning up on Jan 29th, my wife took the car into our local branch to have the handbrake checked, which was not covered by the years warranty and was given a list of other faults, ranging from-front bushes perished, rear springs corroded, rust under doors to the fact that the car had previously been in an accident and had been repaired badly, all had succesfully evaded the multipoint check completed before being given to us. Twenty calls were made, 0 calls returned, one letter sent and a visit and we got our money back , they even tried to diddle us out of 500 pounds by juggling figures, but alas we had kept the invoices!!
Mercedes benz customer services- minus 5 out of ten. Would i buy another one ? yes if i was a millionaire, their intersted in you if you are spending alot of money. Short of that- if they were the last dealership in the world ,I would walk!!!!!
Having received a nice pack of info about the Sport Edition C-Class through the post, I decided to book a test drive in a C320 CDI at my local Mercedes dealer. My experience of rear-wheel-drive cars is very limited, but very positive.
The car seems well put together and quite spacious inside. The boot could do with being a little bigger, and the strengthening bar does intrude a little, cutting down on the height of long items you can fit in there.
The equipment levels could be a lot better, but then this is a Mercedes. Out on the road the car is very comfortable, even with the sports suspension fitted to the test car on 17-inch alloys. The cruise control system work well and seems very logical once you have got used to it, as does the foot-operated parking brake.
On the road, this car surprised me by just how fast it felt. On a motorway slip road, I put my foot to the floor and frankly had to lift off - something I never had to do before! The performance is phenomenal, and the handling seems sharp, too. Considering this, its amazing just how smooth the ride quality is too, even over some pretty rough surfaces the test route took in.
I love this car, even if it is in insurance group 17, and carbon dioxide emissions in group F. The proof - I placed an order for a Sport edition with a host of extras for March delivery. I shall report back in due course.
