My car

I have a 2007 model with the V6 engine which has done 88.000km. It looks good, is very quiet and smooth with a great automatic that really complements the engine. Seating is OK, the boot is large, at least in relation to my previous BMW 320D, the extras really add to the car: beautifully designed sunroof with a sliding inner blind, parktronic, very effective xenon lights etc. A slight problem is the wind noise round the mirrors at motorway speeds, but they do give excellent visibility. A more serious problem was a worn balancer shaft sprocket (known problem) that involved taking the engine out and changing the shaft and sprocket + the chain and other pieces. Overall its a great car with a far classier feel than the BMW and I'm very pleased with it.

My car

Thought I would update my first review of my Sept 2007 C220CDI Elegance W204 Mercedes via their warranty have fixed alll the problems and have given me a second year full warranty, but only after a long fight but nevertheless they gave it eventually with the help of my dealer.

For the last 5 months its been running fine and now Im enjoying it as I should have done. My confidence is higher now than it was, and Ive completed since the last repair job about 10,000 miles trouble free now a total of 20,000 miles. The fuel consumption is quite good and on a return trip to edinburgh matched the BMW series 1 118D manual which was astounding 53mpg so even with the BMW 1 series boasts in reality at motorway speed the C220CDI matched it and its an automatic

I have the Elegance with a beige light interior, its easy to keep clean which I love and the two tone interior makes it light and airy. I also have comand which works well so apart from my initial troubles and Mercedes sloth with regard to customer service the car is now performing well.

Apparently this car has the previous W203 engine but modified so I havent had the problems of injectors thank goodness

My car

I took deleivery of this car in December 2010 and have now driven 3,700 miles. I wanted to get my review in before the revamped version was released. The car I had before this one was an Audi A4 TDI Sportline. I obtained my car from Bridgend Mercedes who were excellent. I've had a few niggles with the engine management warning light coming on twice. I chose the Elegance trim because although the handling on my Audi was very good I got fed up with the hard ride and the heavy steering (now speed sensitive on the new ones as standard I understand). The Merc has a comfortable ride and the gearing is different from the Audi with 6th being almost an overdrive. It's well built. The foot brake takes some getting used to and it's odd having the controls on one side of the steering wheel. The Parktronic aid is very good and I had speed sensitve power steering fitted; it's very good too. The cruise control is the best I've ever used (Honest John makes this point in his review). It didn't like the snow so I've bought some steel wheels and will get winter tyres for next winter. The engine is remarkably quiet for a diesel apart from a throaty roar on start up. A comfortable car which has good acceleration when one needs it. Having the 3 pointed star on the bonnet is great - gives one a feeling of status - if that's your thing.

My car

I have had this car for 8 moths now having purchased it at 8 moths old. It is 12 yrs since my last Merc and I must admit I am very pleased. The 2.2 deisel with Auto box is very efficient and the acceleration I have found is far better than my previous 2.7 CDi Audi A4 .

The command system works a treat and I easily came to terms with all the functions. Telephone connectivity via Bluetooth is faultless.

Average fuel consumption, locally (short hops) 35mpg and on a recent 650 mile round trip it gave 50mpg.

Local dealership in Bognor, very friendly, although did not buy from them. Took car in to be checked as I had gone through some flood water and thought I might have got water in engine via air intake. They had car for an hour, fully checked out OK and no charge.

All in all very happy with the Merc experience.
