USED Mercedes-Benz CLK Cabriolet (02 - 10)

My car

I've owned my CLK for 4 years now, having owned a fabulously well built (if a little dull) Volvo prior to that. Initially I was taken by its looks and all the gizmos that came on my well spec'd example, these still can be a source of delight when they work! From day one I had many little irritating faults usually caused by small poorly made components:

-LED Brake light failure -Seat malfunction -Glovebox not closing -Roof stuck open -Windows dropped/rattled -Headlamp washer failure -Washer pump failure -Power steering failure

All of the above were fixed under warranty. Since the warranty expired the car has needed a fair bit of maintenance, the most significant of which being changing 4 out of 6 catalytic converters at a cost of £1,400!! Other than that the car was trouble free for about two years, until now....

-The command now crashes, and fails intermitantly -CD changer regularly jams -But worst of all the car has begun rusting around all wheel archs, and neither Mercedes-Benz themselves nor my dealer want to know. The car has been garaged whilst in my ownership and always serviced by the main dealer I purchased it from.

They will not repair the rust under the anti-corrosion warranty as they say the vehicle has been completely resprayed (this is a vehicle supplied and service by Mercedes themselves). It hasn't been resprayed. Essentially the 30 year corrosion warranty is not worth the paper it is written on.

Buyer beware.

My car

I bought the CLK500 Sport for my son's first car as a 17th birthday present and I cannot be happier with how the car has been for him.

He mainly uses it for travelling to college and back.

It has got the COMAND system fitted with two televisions in the headrests and this is the most amazing technology and the safety is great.

The only downside to this is the aftersales service at the showroom, but I cannot speak highly enough of the car and the 5.0-litre engine and its amazing horsepower.

My car

This is my second Cab in three years. The first was the Avantgarde, the new one is the Elegance, the choice of leather and upholstery colours was limited and slightly dissapointing this time. I had the electric seat pack and steering wheel column added, a must for a car with more than one driver, you can use the memory facility for ease of use. I find with the roof down and cruising at senty on the motorway the noise level is really acceptable, you can hear the radio or have conversation without shouting! Mercedes must however now consider adding the bluetooth for mobile phones. The car is a pleasure to have and more importantly to drive. Look around for insurance quotes, it is not expensive to insure.

My car

I have owned this CLK Cabriolet 350 'Juice Machine' for over 10 months, from having a E240 V6. Firstly; I cannot believe the reaction from women ! It appears to return better petrol mileage that my E240. Its heavy on rear tyres but this probably due to my driving style; requiring change at 12,000 miles. One point that is annoying: the seat belt extenders retract after a few seconds requiring the door to be opened to reactivate. I would of thought the boys in Stuttgart would of though this one through a bit better. Surprisingly the boot has enough space for 2 holiday suitcases or a whole lotta shopping ( roof up ). Overall better than a tonne of Viagra !
