I have now owned this car for four months and covered some 6000 miles. It is fantastic - distinctive looks but practical, terrific performance but economic. I have had the ecu remapped, providing an extra 40bhp. Interesting to note that although the performance is awesome, the fuel economy has improved. Over 6000 miles I am averaging 37.7 mpg. It is difficult to fault the car, if I was being 'picky' I would like slightly more support from the seats, and do away with the footbrake. However, there are so many plus points these minor niggles fade into oblivion. In my opinion there is no other car currently available that provides such fabulous looks, space, and performance.
I have had this car for a month and first mercedes I have owned. I originally looked at the e-class as i have driven a few, it was great at eating up motorway miles and comfortable but it was not exactly inspiring. The CLS however won me over straight away, plenty of power, decent backseats, big boot, economic, great drive and stunning looks. What more could you want from a car!!! I also looked at the A5 3.0 TDI, the cabin was nice but the exterior looked average and you could just about fit a child in the back (what were Audi thinking!!)
There are a lot of PRO's to be said on this car, a few CON's would include, parking (its a bigger car than you think!) and the price of Mercedes optional extras. One absolute option must is the 5 spoke 18" alloys, these really add the finishing touch (also black lacquer piano wood interior finish looks good).
So if your thinking about buying one, go for it, you wont be disappointed.
Fantastic car, fast, economical, looks great. Seats were OK for me. I have just sold car having done 10,000 miles, the only downside is 4 seats - I now need an estate so it had to go. If I could get away with a car with 4 seats I would have one again. Best Merc there is & I've had a few!
I've had the car approximately five months and covered around 8000 miles so far.
The looks seem to be a love it or hate it kind of thing. It does seem to get a lot of attention and if that's what 'floats your boat' that could be a good thing.
It's my first Mercedes and I'm pleased with the performance. I don't like the Mercedes foot operated parking brake - it's really time to move on to an electronic brake as in the superb S Class. The brake release lever is made of very cheap plastic, which is odd as it's about the only thing that is. Every time I let the brake off it just takes the shine off the overall quality feel.
The seats are really not up to the job - they are really hard so that you sit on them, not in them. Given the quite stunning performance this too is odd - take a roundabout at over 20 and you'll be rocking around like a weeble. This is a particular problem in mine as I've had the engine chipped to 260Bhp - a worthwhile investment.
Good points - except for the foot-brake release, it has fabulous build quality, fast, frugal (36mpg) and solid.
Bad points - the foot brake and the seats!
If you're thinking of buying one be sure to borrow one and drive it around first - you'll probably love it but the seats won't be to everyone's taste.
