This is one of best Mercedes I have driven - it's fast, quiet, and better than the 270 with much more power.
I just love it.
I've had this car for almost two years and in that time it's needed a new gearbox and I've just noticed that it has some sort of suspension problem at the back, as one side of the car is lower than the other.
Whilst these issues will be covered by the warranty - and unlike some, I have had good service from the local Mercedes dealer - I am losing confidence in the reliability of this vehicle.
It's great for cruising on the motorway, and is superb on long journeys, but the diesel engine sounds noisy and unrefined at low speeds around town.
I wouldn't buy another and it would be difficult to persuade me to buy another Mercedes.
This car does what it says on the tin. Its a big estate - about the biggest - and carries anything you throw into it. As a long distance cruiser it is the only car I have ever owned that I get out of without aches and pains. Its quiet, refined, comfortable, well built and has lots of toys to keep you amused on the journey.
The only ownership problem are Mercedes dealers. Mercedes 'Customer Service' itself always take the view that the customer is wrong unless proven otherwise and are incredibly biased toward the dealer. Very patchy (and sometimes incompetent) service has been my experience and the E Class service schedule is so complex even they dont fully understand it. You have to make sure everything that is supposed to be done gets done - especially safety related 'mandatory' items like changing the brake fluid - omitted by the dealer on my last service.
Nevertheless, this is a very good car despite the 'aftercare'
I have owned my E320 eatate for two years and covered 27,000 miles.
It's my second Mercedes estate. My 320 is fully loaded with the Command system, which is great. However it really ticks me off with German cars that everything is an expensive extra.
The car does everything I ask of it but I do find the engine unrefined and noisey in town. It has the grunt and is good on a long journey, and the boot swallows a good load of gear.
Things are now starting to break down in the electrics dept. The door mirrors don't fold when you lock the car, the fog/spot cabin indicator lights don't work and the command system can act up sometimes.
The last service, which included new tyres, cost over £1200. It's coming time for a change and I'm considering a Lexus.
