A car that provides fast autobahn cruising with economy and excellent comfort.
The automatic box is a pelasure to use, the kick down when required accelerates the car effortlessly and smoothly. The interior is roomy providing adequate space for four large adults, the boot swallows large suitcases with ease. The finish and engineering of this vehicle exudes quality, MB learnt the lesson of looking after the customer a long time ago and this has been reflected in the E Class.
My last MB was purchased in 1992 and is still in regular use today I know this one will also provide me with the same excellent service. Economy a regular 40mpg.
This is a really comfortable well thought out car. The ride is very smooth as is the transmission, with plenty of power for a car of this size. Equipment level is good but as always with Mercedes you can spend an absolute fortune on specifcations.
My car is a company car E220 CDI classic automatic. So far, it has done 70,000 mostly motorway miles in less than two years. Bearing in mind this is the first of this type of car I have driven, a few things stand out: effortless pace (even with the small diesel); comfortable and quiet at speed; ecomonical for a car this size (ave 42.1mpg so far). There are two things I would have liked on the base model: slightly more lateral support from the seats, and better headlamps. I have no real gripes on reliability, although I have had to have the turbo replaced because of excessive turbo whine. The car looks much classier in Elegance or Avantgarde trim, primarliy because of the alloy wheels, but even in Classic trim it is nice inside. I haven't driven the larger-engined variants, but if you are concerned about the cost (and I guess a lot of Mercedes drivers are not) you will not be disappointed with the performance of the 2.2 diesel. It does sound a bit like a tractor, though. For what I need it to be, it is a fantastic car and very reasonable tax liability
This car is unpretentious, but includes all the features in its standard specification that one might sensibly require.
I have owned it and been the sole user for 14 months and around 17,000 miles, with zero defects.
It has not required parts or servicing (main service currently due in 7,000 miles). There have been 2 recalls (brakes and seat belt buckles). The car was collected from my office and returned valetted each time.
Economy on motorway driving is generally around 44mpg, whilst overall is 39.5 mpg, as advertised.
Ride is excellent and handling is completely neutral. Performance is fairly breathtaking and far too quick for those who have irritated me on A Class roads.
I have not sampled the top speed, but higher speeds can be reached with consumate ease and in complete peace and quiet.
I trust it will be thoroughly durable and I intend to keep it for some time.

I've had 6 VWs now including this one and it is a mixed bag. In no particular order the economy is poor despite the FSI badging and in town never…
Why is there so much whining about the rear sets? It's small - it's called a "mini" (hint). It didn't get any smaller after you bought it, so deal…
